'88-91 535i auto to 5speed

Hi from New Zealand. I am currently looking to aquire either an '88-91 535i or post '82 635csi... I am currently considering a very tidy but high km (233,000km) '88 E34 535i which is priced accordingly... however, I loath automatics and of course this is an automatic. Can anyone advice me as to whether or not it is worth me considering a manual conversion? Would such a conversion be pretty straight forward? Or would there be alot of wiring/computer work involved? Costly? Would I be better spending twice as much and buying a factory Manual 535i with less milage?

Now, could you apply these questions to a 635csi also... as I absolutely LOVE these sharks !!! but 99% of those in NZ are automatics (yuk).

Hmmm, I find it hard to believe that a group of people who's first revision of the alphabet was A-B-M-W-... cannot help me with the advice I'm seeking :-(
