Led on backside by the rear a/c

My 525 didn't come with the optional rear cigarette lighter, but there's a plate with a cover plate on one side, and a little red led on the other. Any idea what it is? I'll try to get a picture in the morning if you need a visual.

it is for the bmw alarm or keyless entry when activated it blinks like other aftermarket alarms.
