Amazing how nice the M60 looks without the manifold covering/insulation.

Yeah, this one is cleaned every week after it's wash. I'm sure it does get dirtier though.

Very clean. What are the boxes on jsut above the Cam covers with the plastic tube over the inlet manifold connecting them together, with elec connectors. is that your fuel components?

Yeah, interestingly enough, the prev. owner (or his technician) actually over torqued the small 10mm bolts and snapped two of the old supports.

I see all 4 there. Seriously though, I will buy them off of you if you don 't plan on putting the cover back on.

Haha. Yeah, the cover/insulation was just off for cleaning. I realize it's there for a reason...these things run ridiculously hot.

one of the cool things about the M60 is the almost extractor like exhaust headers

Man that is one clean bay. I just got my 540i and need to do some major cleanup under the hood. Hopefully I'll get to it this weekend.

noise insulator. People who buy v8 bmw's aren't expected to hear any (gasp)
engine sounds such as tics, rattles, clicks etc so they put that insulator to absorb sound.

What did/do you use to clean the engine bay? I've wanted to dig into mine, but was unsure of the products used...

Well, everybody does it a little different....I've got buddies that will just take it to a carwash and pressure wash their engine bay, I'm not so brave.

What I do is just gather a lot of rags/cloths that I don't mind ruining and get plenty of Purple Power/Simple Green and go to town. Brushes come in handy, and with the 540i's engine bays being seriously cramped...you might have to remove some things to get to some of those hard to reach areas.

If you're going to use water I'd just let it trickle with a household hose sprayer and be wary of what you're soaking.

Yeah, that makes sense about sound deadening...Still, would have thought (with it being over the intake manifold) that at least some of it's reason would have been for thermal insulation....But it is sitting in the middle of the V and it's already plastic, so who knows.

Good point, could be wrong.
