Hey guys! Long time no post!

So due to popular vote in a thread on another board, we will be having a meet on Sunday August 27th, 2006 at Cardiff State Beach.

We will be meeting around 4pm, and will most likely have dinner at a place reasonably close by. During dinner, we can have a discussion about a possible drive afterwards, and where would be the best place to go.

At previous meets, we ate at Pat & Oscars at the Carlsbad Mall, and went for a drive either out towards Palomar, Pala Casino or Julian areas.

I think just about everyone liked Pat & Oscars, so when the date gets closer, I will call them and reserve a space for us. :)

http://www.parks.ca.gov/lat_long_map/maps/CardiffSB2_files/image_map.gif

When: August 27th, 2006; 4pm

Where: Cardiff State Beach, San Diego County

Why: Why not?

I expect that everyone who attend the meet to please use common sense while in the parking lots, and on the roads. Please, no burnouts or donuts or stupid sh*t. We all have bmw's and I'm sure that we are all aware at how much fun they are to drive. :p So therefore, I accept no repsonsibility for anyone doing anything stupid, you have all been warned.

See you guys there!

Kim,

There is a Pat and Oscar's on Encinitas Blvd near El Camino Real. That would be 5 miles from Cariff beach instead of 10-12 to Carlsbad. Just a thought.

You might also consider Los Olas since it is just across the street from the beach. Another thought.

How many e34 owners are you expecting?

The reason we like to go to the Pat & Oscars at the mall is because there is tons of parking, and everyone likes to cruise up the coast. I've been to the Pat & Oscars in Encinitas, and the driveway is ridiculously steep, I'm not even sure my car could make it up it. :(

I'm not really sure how many e34's I expect. This meet is posted on bimmerforums, dtmpower, m3forum, socale30, s14.net, e46 fanatics and tehdriven in addition to this board. I'm expecting a huge variety of bmw's. Most of the other e34's would likely come from Bimmerforums. :)

We were planning on going to the one at the Carlsbad Mall, off of Jefferson. You should try to come out sometime. :)

So you remember the scene out of the movie "Happy Gilmore" when he misses the goal in the beginning of the movie and Adam Sandler says... "DAMN IT... Is that goal regulation size or what?!?!" then he slips on the ice?! I kinda felt like that when I saw the initials of "SD" listed in the posting, thinking it meant "South Dakota" when it actually meant some place in California!!! You know you're torturing this Minnesotan don't you?! ;)

Pictures of the meet, coming up. Crazy Kim, aka 94is did a great job of organizing this. Big turnout but only 5 e34s. Four 535s and one M5. Lots of e30s and e36s. Those guys (and the 3 other women drivers) all knew each other so it was more of a social event and less about the cars than other meets I have been to. The local e30 group has 19 people that show up regularly for meetings. They said they started with 6 people about 5 years ago. More young guys are buying e30s cause they are a classic now so that's why they have the numbers they do. (I am feeling sad I sold my e30 convertible, but oh well).

One thing they did at this meet was have all the cars of a type park together. That was cool. Mine is the one with the hood up--showing off my clean blingy engine. The white e34 that still has euro plates was imported from Poland. It was an American shipped to Europe and then shipped back. It hasn't gone through the reverse dot conversion yet. It belongs to a guy named Wojtich. The silver M5 belongs to a guy named Duke who uses the same indy I do and loves that shop as much as I do.

Edit: that is not mine with the hood up. Mine was further down. And I did show off my engine, just not in this pic. And I think that is Scott (aston_jag_tech) and Wojtich in the pic. He and Tim (TC535i) are the other two e34s that showed up. Tim decided to bring the e34 instead of his other bmw which shall not be named. Tim thanks for supporting us.

Always have a soft spot for the datona violets or whatever they called purple that year.

The second pic is Crazy Kim's car and Crazy Kim. Sorry Kim about the timing with your hand in front of your face. Kim got an M3 engine cheap from a wreck and put it in her car herself. She has 230-235 at the wheels (30 over stock).

The guys were talking about what a good driver she is and some thought she was better than Tim (not naming names though). Asked her how she did it. Lot's of time in the seat at the track and she always invites the instructors to ride with her except for the timed events. I am going to the track with her as her groupie over her winter break from school.

The most interesting thing about Kim's car (to me at least) were the $500 camber-caster plates. Don't know how I missed a picture of those. I also thought it was interesting that Dinan gives you stickers to put on your car when you get their parts.

The guy with the carbon fiber hood drove down from Pasedena which is the far side of LA. In traffic that is about like driving in from Texas. It was 4.5 hours of agony. That is dedication.

These cars got my award from the most interesting seats. Sorry about forgetting to rotate the first one. At this point I can't remember if this car is an EVO or if just the seats are from an EVO (maybe not spelled correctly but that is what it sounded like). BMW built them to race but they had to sell a certain number to the public so they built 5000 of them. I took a test sit in these seats and they were awesomely comfy--the seats hug you.

The second pic is from Duke's M5. Only 2 years did they make the seats like this. Someone was overheard to say that there was a certain activity those seats would not be conducive for to which the retort was "yeah but you could have 2 people in the back seat at the track". Different perspectives.

Walked down the e36 row with Tim. I like walking around with people who know something cause they tell me what I am seeing and point out things I would never notice--like how far forward these wheels are.

We took at 10 mile drive up the coast together and had dinner together. I was not thinking the drive would be anything more than time spent getting from point A to B since this stretch of road is in my hood. (I live a mile from where the meet was held). But it was so much fun to drive as a group. When we got through the beach towns to a stretch of open road, the M3 guys started doing a little light street racing. No one got a ticket though. It just felt good to experience being a part of a larger bmw community.

Kim, Tim, Wojtich, Duke, nice meeting you guys(girl)

Alot of cars. It was pretty sweet to see how some cars were set up(suspension wise) Was very impressed with the M3 picture that Gayle posted(Its the wheel picture, black car) Coil over setup. Almost kissing that fender, Didnt get the owners name though, ****.

Dukes M5 was pretty sweet. (Jealous)
Wojtich 535 was very sweet also, liked the rims.
Tim with his support, woo woo.
and who can forget Gayles *bling bling";)

It was pretty cool to meet some of the other 5 series owners. Maybe we all can get together some more and share experiences with our cars.

This meet kicked me in my ass to invest even more money into the car. Im excited for my engine arrival and to get some body work done.:D

All in all, great day.

I heard a little bit about someone at the beach passed away. Thats all I heard, there was a ambulances and a fire truck if I remember. Thats pretty much it.

Yeah, most definetely I was reading that its better to do a swap if you have auto if you are increasing power and torque. I thought about it for 2 seconds and said, no. It woudl be trick to do to a car but, no thanks.

Are you plugged into the NorCal group? The bay area should be quite feasible for you from Sacramento. NoCal have meets and drives on a fairly regular basis. They had one last year in Livermore. They are way more active than us SoCal beach bums.

I am not yet. I just joined today. I have been lurking here for the last week or two and finally joined today. I have had my 540i for less than a month, I previously owned two E30s and wanted to get to know some fellow E34 owners online. I will definitely will pm him to get the 411 on the NorCal events. I have to say that I am very impressed with this message board so far everyone has been very informative and I am having a blast learning new things about the E34.

Thank you for coming out guys and Gayle! :p I'm glad that we had a decent e34 turnout. 5 is actually a very good number, since we rarely get 5-series', let alone e34's. I think the meet Tim was referring to will be in Oct/Nov sometime. When more information becomes available I will post it up. Thanks again. :)

Yup, looking to be November at this point... we'll keep you kids updated when it's finalized.

Good to see all the E34's out there, and some guy wanted to Buy My Wheels (no "BMW" pun intended...), so it's a good thing I brought the E34 out instead of the other car which Gayle refuses to speak of... Awesome meeting some new faces too. Great to see a local E34 community building... again. :)
