I talked to Mike and there is a chance he might make it. The member of his harem that was designated to receive his attention this weekend dumped her bike and that kills their plans, so he miiiiiiiight be available. I have been working on him to come down, but I think we need some peer pressure here.

We definetly need Mike and Tim to come for sure! Who is CalifBlue? Lomita, where is that? Spetmeber? On the weekend?. Gayle-Mikes user name is Calisurfer911 right?

So you have my number to get a hold of me. I will be at Pizza Port at 1:00PM sharp. I will see everyone there that is going.

-For the Northern Cali owners, sorry. We will have to make a state wide meet later on.
-Take care all!

Mike is Califblue. He lives about 90 miles north of me. Lomita is the LA Harbor area.

CAsurfer911 is Matt and his parents live about 10 miles north of me. He is home for the summer. I am not expecting him since we have heard nothing since his original post. Scott--you are new to CA. This is the way it is here.

And Mike. How is this for not playing fair? I'll buy.

We need to continue your micro brewery education.

Would this make it worth your time to come down? Surf at Swami's. Breakfast at Pipes. Lunch and Shark Attack at Pizza Port. Dinner and Fat Tire at Bestawan. It is where the locals hang now since Taco Auctioneer went down.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c21/e34Gayle/bowSmall.jpg

That is as much as I can offer. But how can you say no?

Doesn't beer ease the pain of a hang over?

I got my car back Friday from a 10 day stay with the Indy, so I will have it there. :) I am going to wear my e34 tee shirt so you can find me there.

Well--It was the miniest of mini meets. It was Tim, Tim's girlfriend Kim, and me. Kim is an inspiration to me. She put an M3 engine in her 325 herself. And she tracks her car at Buttonwillow. And she organizes meets. What a car babe!

Tim's car has been sitting at his parents the last couple of years. Kim and I volunteered to detail it for him. Tim's car and my car were pretty much twins except that his has the black interrior and mine has the gray. On Tim's car, the prior owner bottomed out the oil pan and cracked the housing and Tim put 70,000+ miles on it without enough oil pressure so he is talking new engine. Which of course, Kim will install for him. There is a really nice e12 for sale in Kim's family for $1,000. Tempting. Really tempting.

There is a bmw meet at Cardiff State Beach in a couple of weeks. Not just e34s but some will show up, so Scott, you and I will have another chance to meet local e34 owners.

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c21/e34Gayle/IMG_1652Small.jpg

I really liked Tim's M5 trim. He risks the tickets for no front plate, but Kim said before she met him she kept hearing about "Crazy Tim". I guess a ticket for that is no big deal.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c21/e34Gayle/IMG_1653Small.jpg

I really have to get my windows tinted. Sigh.

Gayle

I showed them my blingy engine bay. We looked at Tim's which was a little less clean. Kim said the local BMW Car Club hosts a clean car contest. Ohhh. I am in. That is something I could compete for.

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c21/e34Gayle/IMG_1654Small.jpg

Tim had 20 beers yesterday so he was a bit dehydrated. He and Kim had iced tea. I had a pint of Shark Attack (11% alcohol) and a Cardiff Creme (a wussy beer). Here is me after I slept them off.

Scott Here is the link from bimmerforums for the meet at Cardiff State Beach that Kim and Tim told me about. I don't see a date though, but it is a long thread. I thought they said August 18 but that doesn't make sense as that is a Friday. I am sure that sooner or later they will post a notice here. Please get a spare set of keys. The "I lost my keys" excuse only works once.

Gayle, Tim, Kim.

Looks like you guys had a good time. Sweet pics. Your cars are so clean and perfect. Unique. I like that M5 trunk lid trim Tim. Gayle I like your rims, are those off of 7 series?? Are your cars lowered a lil? I am so pissed that I couldnt meet you guys, seriously.

Gayle, Cardiff State beach, Im there! Maybe we could do another mini meet to meet you guys.Oh yea,I really need to work on my car. It needs alot of work compared to your car and Tims.

I did find my keys at 2:32 though. I went through my room, living space, downstairs, my bathroom, everywhere! No luck!! My DD friend said I did unlock the door. So I went into my room mates room just for laughs to see if they were there. I never go into my roommates rooms ever but I just had to because I was destroying my head. Yeah under all the mess they were in her bathroom in the shower. Isnt that stupid, I was looking from 10:20am until 2:32pm. And they were just next door. So, after that I needed a drink. A few drinks later I cant find my wallet now ;)

Sorry again for missing you guys, will see you soon though.
Have a good week

Are we posting pics up here or something?? :)

Gayle, Tim, Kim.
Gayle I like your rims, are those off of 7 series??

They are 18 inch o.e m parallels. Don't know if they came off an M5 or a 7 series. Prior owner bought them so I don't know their parentage.

Are your cars lowered a lil? I am so pissed that I couldnt meet you guys, seriously.

And yes it is lowered. HR springs.

Gayle, Cardiff State beach, Im there! Maybe we could do another mini meet to meet you guys. Tim is from LA and just in town for the weekend. So it is just me in town.

Thanks for posting the pic. Now I wont have to wear the e34 tee shirt if we try to meet. I do need an explanation/interpretation of that one picture. Being female, sometimes I just don't get things.

Ahhhhh, I wasnt aware that those were on M5s, cool. H&R seems like the way to go. My co worker has H&R on his 3 series.

Well, the first pic is me passed out and theres a sausage over my butt. At first I thought I shat myself. So after being told its a sausage we had breakfast, with the sausage. I myself stayed away from the sausage. But the room mates didnt. Ahhhh, good old booze.

I still have to catch up on some Tech bulletins for work so Ill catch up with you guys later. Sorry again for not showing:( Gayle, Ill check the link you posted for Cardiff as soon as I have a chance.

I had 9 beers at my place/neighbors from 11-7pm, 4 bottle of Bass and 3 shots of Patron at my buddy's place. Headed downtown, waited too long in line for Stingaree and gave up. Went to Henry's (my buddy from high school is the manager). Was at street scene, but the door guy let us in right away, no cover (line of probably 40-50 people). Had a couple beers there and some of Kim's redbull vodka, then headed over to a mexican restaurant up the street. Apparantly we had 2 pitchers there, I threw up in a parking lot somewhere, don't remember getting home or anything. Woke up, ran to the bathroom and puked... and went to the meet.

Sorry... what was your excuse again? ;)

Cardiff meet... do it.

Nice meeting you, Gayle... awesome car too. My car has 220k... hers has 90,000!! Very clean example, awesome car.

I'd be a challenge for that... :)

Yeah, I was absolutely hammered. My other friend was talking about how he owes people apologies from how drunk he was Saturday night... I don't even REMEMBER anything to know if I owe apologies or not! :D

I didn't go to street scene, my buddy Mark (manager at Henry's) went, but the doorman let us in anyways. But yea, I heard Street Scene was less attractive this year... too much $$ and not even downtown. I've never been...

Agreed. I think tickets were $100 this year. I can remember paying $25 a few years back. Plus the ambiance of the Gaslamp District beat the ___ out of Qualcomm stadium. I used to love to sit on the curb and people watch. My favorite was the African drummers with the guys on stilts.

So Tim, are you back in LA now?

Gayle
08-12-2006, 10:31 AM
So last weekend we had the mini-est of mini meets in San Diego with Crazy Tim, Crazy Kim and I getting together and Scott (aston-jag_tech) being a no show cause he couldn't find his keys.

This weekend Ramon (MBMX) was in town for his son's birthday and so Ramon, Scott, and I met up at the dive bar of all dive bar's Scolari's.

So the important stuff first. Was it really a dive bar? Not by Tim's standards. They did have beer on tap but only Bud. And were the fixtures older than I am? There weren't any fixtures. There was a bar and 2 pool tables. It was sooo bare. We managed to find a couple of tables and some chairs that were stacked by behind the the sound equipment and drug them out so we had the VIP seating. Ramon's son was the base player in the first band which was better than the second band by a long shot. Their drummer was amazing. And Ramon's son looked like David Byrne.

How do you have an e34 meet inside a bar? First we shared stories about how our e34s came into our lives and discussed our dreams for them. Scott wants to turbo his. Since he works at a jaguar dealership, he has the lift. The last words on this subject were "do you know what megasquirt is?" "eh yeah".

We gossiped about the board. Ramon talked about how impressed he was with Jeff's knowledge. Jeff--you always think no one listens to you. Well Ramon did. Since Scott is new to the board, we gave him the scoop on the people who cast a big shadow on this board. We talked about the event in Chicago. Ramon plans to drive his 94 540 up from Florida for the event next year.

Then on the break between bands we went out and looked at our cars. This is me, Scott, Ramon's daughter Andrea, and Ramon in the obliagatory group shot after I blinded them with my blingy engine. OMG, Andrea was adorable. If I ever thought about crossing the aisle, she would make me want to. So I cranked up Charlie (my car) and made the eisenmann sing for them.

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c21/e34Gayle/aa.jpg

More to come. I am typing as fast as I can.

Gayle
08-12-2006, 10:36 AM
Next we looked under the hood of Andrea's 2004 VW bug. There is an amazing amount of engine crammed in there. Hubby, who came along for the beer and music, was the former owner of a 64 and 67 bug. My first car was a 66 karman ghia. We couldn't get over the "what's wrong with this picture" experience of seeing the engine in front.

Then we moved on to Scott's car. This is Scott, Ramon, and Hubby (more proof that he is not a fictious creation). He actually feigned interest and looked under the hood with us.

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c21/e34Gayle/bb.jpg

Gayle
08-12-2006, 10:52 AM
Scott did not know that I photograph everything that moves. He came unprepared and was a bit embarrassed that his car was not as clean as mine. But in all honesty, there are not a lot of cars that are as clean as mine. There are some and you know who you are.

When we were gossiping about the board, Ramon said everyone has a speciality and that mine was interrior restoration. Really? I didn't know that. I thought I was the queen of engine detailing.

Scott--I have just 2 words for you. Carb cleaner.

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c21/e34Gayle/cc.jpg

We talked about the different colors of red. We talked about how Scott's car has the ubiquous 55 shimmy. His occurs upon braking. We talked about his tires. Here is his interrior which is for the most part pretty nice.

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c21/e34Gayle/dd.jpg

And he are his awesome tail lights. Aren't they beautiful?

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c21/e34Gayle/ee.jpg

So we returned to the bar. I got carded going back in. The bouncer looked at my birthday date and did the standard "no way." Made my day. So finished off our beers, did the hugs good bye, and made plans to meet up at the San Diego meet for all bmws in a few weeks. We are hoping to pick up another couple of e34 enthusiasts at that event. It never ceases to amaze me how many e34s are on the road here and how few enthusiasts there are.

So some of your are probably shaking your heads about all the fluff I just posted, but I consider myself to be the social director of bimmer.info and in charge of member bonding. You just have to put up with me. And if you come to San Diego, we will have a mini meet in your honor.
