The thread title is a favorite expression of locals.

I took off work today to do some errands and to go into to talk to the body restoration guy at the Indy about my paint chips and scratches. I know better than to go anywhere without calling first.

Called at 9am. Was told "Surf's up and Robbie is not here. We will call you." It's 1pm and just got the call. Life is tough here in paradise.;)

Pancake--are you counting the days yet?

Mike--are you working today or do you have the surf flu? Are you sure you don't want to come to our SD mini meet and surf Swami's?

Those pics make me miss my old South Coast stomping grounds...

Gayle (and other SoCal residents), have you ever taken the Ortega Hwy to task with the Bimmer? I learned to ride my first motorcycle like a demon on that road. Lots of fun and one of my favorite drives anywhere, it has to be right up there along with the Berchtesgaden area, near the Germany/Austria border.:D

I have riden Ortega hundreds of times on my Ducati...not good for the E34 as too much traffic.
I am a big fan of Angles Crest Highway for both the DUC & the E34.
It is 29 miles of haul ass mountain road from the bottom to Newcomb's Ranch( resturant /bar/ our hang out)...we do it in about 17-18 min on motorcycles a litte over 20 in the E34

this is an amazing road considering it very close to civilization!

here is a photo looking towards downtown L.A ( you can barley see the tops of the buildings) I took with a disposable Fuji camera on Jan 7th 2004 at 7:04 am 28 degrees. We had just come out of dense fog for 5 miles to the most unreal morning I had to pull over and take this photo...follow the yellow ribbon:)

Right. Tell me you haven't looked at a thong bikini today. I know how you spend your time at work. And so does everyone else here after that video you posted.

OHH,OHH, you left out the Red Montesa trials bike in the background.... :)

I always thought they were the neatest bikes- not exactly practical, but interesting. And those professional trials riders!!! Those guys are good!!!

The first pic is probably right on the border between Cardiff and Encinitas looking at Swami's which is in Encinitas. And the rest are taken at Swami's which is at the southern end of downtown of old Encinitas (the original beachtown as opposed to the urban sprawl that goes eastward for about 5 miles).

I take it you know your SoCal geography. How is that?

Great pic of the fog, really nice. I was up that way once on a ski trip but it was night by the time we got up there. There was another great ride up from the coast I think up Topanga Canyon.

I used to work on the San Juan Capo end of Ortega Hwy and would go out there on my lunch hour for a blast. This was in 1980 so I'm sure traffic was much lighter in the "olden" daze...I would barely see a half dozen cars on the 23 miles between SJC and Elsinore. I learned to ride by hanging out with a bunch of AFM road racers, went to many races at Riverside, Ontario and Sears Point. Wish I had my BMW back then but the motorcycle was a blast. It was a 78 Honda 750F it was my first bike and plenty fast. Could barely do half the speed limit in the turns when I started, after 6 months was doubling the speed limit and scraping the pegs... Many riders have met an early demise up there.

What convinced me to start driving BMW was a trip to Europe and driving throughout Germany.

This picture is pure Bavarian driving, what BMW's were made for:

The guys I knew were sponsored by Del Amo Suzuki in Torrance, which a friend of mine owned. Dennis Smith and Kenny Farmer were their main riders, Dennis took the pole at Daytona one year and blew a clutch in the first turn of the race.:(

We used to go "Nuclear Fishin'" out off San Onofre, pulled up some nice specimens occaisionally, mostly drank beer. Had some friends that trained there to do fuel rod replacement but all bailed after training when it was time to jump.

I worked as staff photographer and assistant photolab instructor at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, horrible work but someone had to do it.:D

I was commuting from Corona Del Mar to Mission Viejo to work on the bike, a quick blast down Coast Hwy thru Laguna and up Crown Valley, it would take 30 minutes back then, probably an hour now if not more (unless you use the new toll road). Last time I was out there it took half an hour to drive down to Albertson's for supplies.

We bought 2 raffle tickets on a new Fatboy at a car show last week, maybe I'll win it, they only sold 500 tickets.:) (comes with a trailer!)
My GF says she might let me ride on the back...LOL She still has a MC license, I let mine go...

Too many cops on Ortega... same goes for Angeles Crest, all the other infamous rides. Even Palomar Mtn is overpopulated now, and it's all idiots that think crossing the double yellow into the oncoming lane is the proper way to apex a corner. Used to run that stuff, now I save it for Buttonwillow, Willow Springs, autocrosses, etc (B-willow next weekend!)

Got my bike permit, gotta get signed up for a MSF course and finish it up.

BTW Gayle, was out in your hood last nite... houseparty off Birmingham where it dead ends, then over to Yogi's till 2.

That is hilarious but I am slow when it comes to getting the connection to this totally meaningless thread. I suppose a connection is unnecessary. I just don't want to miss anything, so if there is one, would you please explain it to me?

I didn't creep up. I pulled my camera out of my purse and took the picture out of the car window on the way to supper. That house is the party house of the hood and it is in the exact location that Tim described.
