I liked Pundit's thread so much I decided to start my own, with a slightly opposite purpose.

What is the BEST mod you guys have come across, in terms of engineering "elegance," originality, or pure "cool factor"?

Mine is the S52 into E30, which seems outrageous but works really well if properly done.

On the non-BMW side, I've driven a couple of mid 80s Jag XJ6s with a Chevy small block & tranny dropped in. This transplant fixes all the irritating Jag electrical problems, and gives a well-sorted chassis a lot more grunt.

The best, has to be the Vortech supacharger on the m3. No radiator cores were cut in the installation, & the software seems spot on.

I also like the Innovate Motorsport LC-1 wideband oxygen sensor with DynoTune's digital AFR display. The grounding can be a bit tricky, but as a tuning device, it is greatness.

i don't know if this counts as reverential or not, but ihave seen in the early 80's an austin mini van with a jag v12 engine and box in it

You need more grunt than the Jag 5.3ltr V12????

I agree Bahn, the best modifications are always to the driver, not the car. Thanks to the guys at Skip Barber I'm at least moving in the right direction in that regard. Respectfully though, that was not the point of the thread! ;)

You're right Wingman, the v12 is/was pretty robust. The swaps I saw, however, were people pulling out the 6 cyl. and dropping in the Chevy V8. It is possible to buy a 6cyl XJ AND the small block Chevy and the relatively minimal conversion hardware, PLUS the go-fast parts for WAAAY less than the cost of a well maintained/decently running 12 cylinder car.

e39 m5 engine/trans in an e34 m5. i'd love to see a blown e34 m5 touring.
