I got quoted $1000 to change both front wheel hubs of my recently purchased e34 540i by a local shop! parts costs about $200 online so I guess I can justify spending some money on tools.

According to these instructions....

http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/maintenance/suspension/wheelbearing.htm

I need

Floor jack, jackstands.
46mm or 1-13/16" socket and T bar (I bought mine from Princess auto for US$5.00)
250 lb-ft torque wrench, pliers, WD40, rubber hammer.
Tools to remove the caliper/carrier and rotor.
Maybe puller if the inner race is stuck

Please make some suggestions because I'm clueless about tools. I did some research and it sounds like ac hydraulic is the choice for jacks. If someone could link me or give me parts/sku # for these tools or point me to someone who does business online that would be great... Thank you

Go to Pep Boys or whatever and buy the best, biggest jack you can afford. You'll be glad you did in time.

Any jackstands will do. Just be sure they're rated for enough weight.

As for the other stuff, I dunno. Someone else will. Most quality tools have lifetime warranties, so I'm not sure how much it matters what brand you buy.`

gloves. dont touch the new hub or it will start to rust almost instantly. i got some loctite rust preventer spray and a chemical zinc coat.

puller definately. also make sure you get the inner dust caps.
