Power Steering Fluid ?

Hi everybody. I have a 95 525i that requirtes "ATF Fluid only" for the power steering. I need to add some fluid, and I have a bottle of ATF Dexron III, is that safe to add? Thanks!

The guy before me apparently never maintained this car, after adding the fluid, the difference in turning the wheel is evening and day!

that fluid isnt expensive. maybe think of flushing the old and popping in new stuff? I mean its just an idea.

Yeah, that was my original plan (along with changing the filter, and perhaps the pump) when I started hearing groaning. But for now I don't have enough time.

I was just awfully confused by this Dexron Mercon terminlogy.
