I dont have the tilt or retract option on my steering wheel setup. I find that my steering wheel sits a little too high for my personal taste. I prefer the wheel more into my lap. Anyways, is there a way to adjust my wheel to lower downward to the floor more?

I was thinking of maybe unbolting the mounting of the steering column and adding spacers behind the bolts to space down the wheel. I am not really familiar with the mounting of the steering column so I thought I would ask what you guys thought first. any suggestions?

There is no tilt option for the E34, just telescoping (power or manual) on later cars.

Spacers are doable. You'll need longer bolts. Search it, it's been discussed.

can't you just adjust your seat?I have two vehicles and one does have an adjustable height steering wheel but a few adjuistments of the seat's height and distnace from the wheel allow me to find a comfortable postition for any trip though i do have the sport seats so i' not sure how yours can be moved..

No, Im not a very tall dude and my seat is comfortable where it is, I dont like to sit very high in the car, I really just want the wheel to tilt down and inch or even less. I will try the washers under the steering wheel bolts trick soon.

I thought the tilt was available on the non-airbag e34.

I dunno. I don't have a tilt. Just goes in or out telescoping. Was awkward at first until I figured out how to pull the thing all the way out. Long arms and legs ya know.. it's a pisser. If I was smaller, like the poster, I would think that it would be easier. Maybe it's just fubar for everyone.

If you put a lot of washers to make the wheel go down an inch or so, would the plastic cover for the steering wheel column still be able to go back on? An inch is a fair difference IMO.

Might need some modification! Never thought about that. Perhaps I'll just lower it to the point where the panel will allow.
