Hello;
I could use some advise on a tranny fluid change. Bought an E34 1993 M50 Auto last year with 130K miles. I did all the basic stuff and it runs great. It's my first BMW and I love it. So much so, I bought another E34, a 94 with a 5 SPD and 72K miles.
I was thinking about doing a tranny fluid change with filter, but I don't know if the fluid was ever changed before.
Should I leave it alone or change it? Based on my experience, when you try to do the right thing for a tranny that was never maintained, you can get into trouble. Any words of wisdom from your BMW experience would be appreciated. Thanks.

is this a test?

On an auto trans you change the filter and ONLY the fluid that comes out. Replace the missing stuff with the correct fluid and repeat each 30k miles.

other people did get lucky changing or flushing ALL the fluid but a countable number didnt, I wouldnt want to be part of that group.

There was a poll on this maybe a year or so ago.

I saw that poll. It seemed to be focused more on the ZF tranny. Thanks for the advise though.

I say drop the pans, change the filter, and replace what fluid comes out.

for fluid replacement, use a 50/50 mix of B&M TrickShift synthetic and Redline D4
