I am planning on replacing the exhaust on an E34 525 from the cat back (after 16 years of service, its time). I have purchased both the center and the rear resonators / mufflers.

Would like some advice - should these be welded together before installation, then entire unit installed?

Interested in others experiences.

Thanks for the help

My one piece center and rear is still very good. I recently repaced the cat section. The bolts on the downstream side of the exhaust manifold are easy to remove. I would use stainless steel bolts and nuts to connect the cat section and the rear section.

Thanks for the photos and past thread.

I'll have to do some quick measuring, but from what it looks like, welding first is the way to go.
