Result of the test:
Risk of getting injury: low
Body deformation: not much

It was still possible to open the doors as usual!

It's a pity that all the coolant and oil leaked out :)

Test was done in 1991, according to old rules of Euro-NCAP. 50% coverage of the impact zone (front end) at 56kmh.
Generally the body of the driver was safe. Passenger did not have any problems at all.
Drivers head banged on the upper elactic part of the wheel, resulting on a deceleration of 88g, which is higher than the level considered dangerous, 80g. The driver might get a brain concussion or a head trauma if this decelaration is longer than 3 miliseconds in duration. But this is still lower than the level causing serious head traumas.
Belts had a lot of tension. Might result in a broken rib in people of older age.
There was a slight deformation on the roof..
Overally 520i BMW was showing the best result in its class.

It looks to me like the knees ended up in the dash. Seems like a decent amount of damage for what amounts to only a 33mph crash.

you can...just go to babelfish and paste the crash test site's URL address into the correct dialog (translation) box. (you've got to select and copy the crash test site's URL address first)

Go to the link posted below and pick Russian to English and paste the URL address...then click...the whole web page will be translated from Russian into English

Here's a direct link to AltaVista's Babelfish translation web page: http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/tr

the seat belts break collar bones. i'd break that all day every day to save my life. bmw + tree = broken collarbone and still walking? i'm hooked for life.

You have to remember the the obstacle does not move and has basically infinite mass as far as the crash testing goes. Even an 18-wheeler would move alot at that amount.
