Oelstand motor warning!!!

Hello!

The Check Control today gave me Oelstand motor. What is this???????:(

Oh i forgot! The car is a M5 with a S38b38.

The German speaker in my home is out of town but I believe it to mean oil level.

It's your Oil level...Das ist low

check the dip stick and look for the cap that says 710

You can change your checkcontrol language by holding down the checkcontrol button for 10 seconds while key is in pos 1(maybe it was pos 2) and engine off.
For the next language, do the procedure again.

I checked the dip stik and it was between the two lines not very low... It's time for inspection so maybe the oil is old!

I tried that and only the obc language changed. Also when i did this, the Uk, Us or other languages were displayed in the obc and not in the cluster!

Old oil dosen't throw a level warning. sometimes hard driving can trip the sensor, parked on a hill....things that would change the level in the pan.

The plug for the sensor is low on the engine, and some times gets dirty and sends false warnings.

Mine did that for a few months, then I had to get onder the car and fix it.

Be careful the plastic on the plugs are very brittle.

I droved it hard this morning and now i get this. It is parked at a road with a little leverage... Is it because of that? Is that sensor expensive?

did you restart the car after?

It may just go away.....after all has settled down.

If it persists, then check the sensor wiring and plug before looking to replace the whole thing.

The oil level warning comes on in my car when the oil level is about halfway between the marks.Add 1/2 litre or so and see if that fixes the warning

The level of the oil is exactly there, halfway between the marks! I will try that tomorrow and i will inform you!

yep same as Pauls, right about the middle of the grooves I get the oil message.

when i removed my sensor, it was pretty gummy.

after spraying it out with brake cleaner (half a can, for about half an hour), it was much much cleaner and you could hear the little thing inside that moves again!

if you do that, make sure you get a new o-ring
