After being quite dissapointed with the high gas prices and how quick my gas gauge goes from F to E, it was nice to cruise on the 495/95 S towards Washington DC this weekend and back (actually made the trip twice). With a full tank travelling between 70-85mph, I made it from Philadelphia, to DC and back to Philadelphia using only 1/2 of a tank of gas (a nearly 300 mile trip), at an average of 25-27MPG! :-D Made my weekend! Especially after seeing city MPG circling 9-11MPG.

You're the first driver to describe driving on 495 as "nice." This might make the DC area papers!

we should start a stickey thread to share excellent driving roads of which we know. I know far too few here in the NH/MASS area.

the NE is so congested and polluted.. I wonder what Iowa is like... flat long highways?

Colorado would probably be good . anyplace with mountains. I live in sounthern NH and have yet to take my new 540 up into the mountains but as soon as the weather gets sunny and dry i'm going hunting.

Virginia is gorgeous, but watch out for the Cops. Same thing with Tennessee and Kentucky--lots of rolling hills, mountains, etc. I just got back from South Carolina this weekend and averaged 24MPG on the freeway in the M5--much better than the 14.5 I'm used to in the city as well :)

Just got back from a r/t from Chicago to Columbus, OH. Averaged over 27mpg on the trip at 80 mph constant. I have the chip installed but two weeks ago I changed the injectors, rotor, cap, plugs and wires. I recommend this quick repair (wires, plugs and distributor) to everyone. Now I will not hesitate going for a road trip even with gas prices the way they are.
