Hey all,

I know some might think me crazy, but I like dials :)

Is it possible to swap the climate control cluster from the roller type (first pic) to the dial type?

I just get the feeling that those levers on the dial one will mean different connections at the rear of the panel.

Many thanks for any wisdoms contributed... :) Nick

Wouldn`t the dials be to large to fit in there? You would have to relocate the buttons under the rollers to make room for the dials.

For the electrical function I must say pass. The dials are a dynamic resistance as far as i know, the rollers i have no clue.

I doubt it. Roller type has at the back side a blue plug around the area where the rear window heater switch is, and a 3-pin plug there, 2 pins plug for the fan behind the controller, and another 3pin plug, of which only 2 pins are actually installed. That is out of an E32 750iL from Sept. 27, 1988, Behr part number is 94.203.44.002 IHKA LL 1390 627, E32/6411.
Just happens that I have 2 in front of me.

If only I could see the back of a dial one... Nick

http://web.archive.org/web/20020609121019/maxf.freeyellow.com/ac_cont/Hey thanks a heap, that's the stuff... why on earth BMW didn't use more LEDs in their dashboards I don't know- seems silly to use them some places and not others (of course I don't mean for hi-output situations as ultra brights are only new), but there are so many nasty little bulbs around that could have been LEDs. VW were very good at changing over pronto when they could. Still, therein lies a little encouragement (thanks Erich) to pull mine and give it a good clean and also replace some bulbs with RED ultra brights... :) Nick

That is the procedure how to change the bulbsHmmm so one has to change mini bulbs in the switches for tha backlighting. That explains it.... what a job! :) Worth doing but also worth being careful! It's no good if the bulbs blow.

Wow- imagine how much the stealer would charge to change a bulb in there... :) (I'd guess new panel price, plus 60 mins R&R?).. :D Nick

http://bmwe32.masscom.net/johan//IHKA_lights/IHKA_lights.htmlThank you. I love Sean's web-based documentation :)

That's it. Off I go to buy some clear ultra brites for the temp scales and a red one for the fan wheel, and a set of those dinky cluster caps whilst I'm at it... :) Nick
