Fuel Sender/Guage issues

My fuel sender was broken by the PO. I ordered a used sender from Vines Automotive with a 6-month warranty. The old one was broken due to a dent in the fuel tank right where the sender was, and the new one would not fit. This was remidied by pounding out the dent with a piece of wood.

The new sender is in now, but it shows the wrong level on the dash. Does anyone have any idea why this could happen?

The seller said that it was tested and working. I dont want to risk taking it apart, if it doesnt work i will have him send me another one since its under warranty.

The sender may test out on the bench, but since they run on range of resistance, the guage is the real test.
