...last three tanks:
25.5 mpg
25.4 mpg
25.5 mpg

time between fillups:
16 days
18 days
16 days

Not like I've been babying it, and the conditions have been varied that I've been driving it under, but this is the first time it's ever had three back-to-backs like that. Overall car average over the last 3.25 years is 24.2 mpg. High is 32. Low is 19. At the track ;).

Are you buying the same fuel each time?
Maybe the manufacturer is giving you something good now (higher octane?).
Haven't had time to check our consumption, that requires thinking ;)

Could be that we're phasing out of the oxygenated fuel, could be that my foot is finally calibrated to what gets good mileage. Who knows, but I like it!

I'm getting better fuel economy in the 540 since buying the E30 and not because it's not being driven as much, I get my jolly's :D in the E30 (note: hassle green "P" platers) and find I just cruise in the E34 (sophistication Vs. raw talent) LOL

So now we're 25.5, 25.4, 25.5, and 26.6. I like this. A lot!

Isn't it normal to get better mileage with summer fuel? I am not sure if that's the cause of your increase.

I have not noticed this consistency in the past. I was remarking upon how perhaps my foot has finally become calibrated to the car.

That's consistent mileage and about par for the course. Here in the flatlands the 318iS delivers 27-28 on average and will perform better of course on the highway, up to 30, but I've never done any better than that.

The winter months will drop down to 25-26 and as low as 23 during the bitter cold months. But give that thang about 50 degrees fahrenheit and notice the difference in performance. The M5 just loves the cooler weather.

It's probably one of the most dependable cars I've owned, especially since it's 15 years old and 78k miles.

How's Lainey feeling these days Bill?...

She's a little more tired than usual. We're due Labor Day-how ironic!

And Junior will roll over 100k miles tomorrow on the way up to Kerr Lake. I'll try to take a photo.

Hope you're doing well, Jr. Wish I could've made my trip to Chicago a week earlier and been up there for the meet, but NPE couldn't move for me.

Take care.

Bill,
Have you 'chipped' this car?
Just curious, ours is blowing some black smoke, like running too rich.
my indy says he thinks it might be chipped and this is one of the symptoms, won't know for sure until I get it plugged into the diagnostic machine.

cheers,
Greg

And running quite well, I might add. The tailpipe is slightly sooty, but it's not blowing black smoke under acceleration.
