Hello, thought it may help if I gave my experience with my blower motor not working...

Back in the winter my blower motor stopped working,,, so I put in a used blower motor and it worked great for a couple month,,, around the same time the rear defrost stopped working,,, so lived with it not working for a while and now it's summer so I needed to fix it before it gets too hot... Anyway,,, Since the defrost stopped working around the same time the blower stopped I thought maybe its the climate control so I got another one but it didn't work,,, still nothing,,, so I thought the old blower I had put in went bad too so I got a new one $130 Autozone,,, still it didn't work,,, so I took out the Sword from my friends junk 89 535 and put it in mine... Whalaa... it worked... at the same time I changed the microfilter which was nasty... air blows hard now... What I have read over and over again is that the Sword stops working on position 1,2,3 and that the blower usually will work on high even if the Sword is bad... I just want to say that it if it doesn't work at all it can still be the Sword... don't rely that if it doesn't work on high that its something else...

A couple tips for removing the sword and micro filter in a 7 series... On the 7 the glove box opens and slides forward--the easy way to remove the screws to the floor vent which is straight back behind the glove box is to reach straight through the glove box,,, take a piece of duct tape and tape up the black plastic flap out of your way,,, Next I found it easier also when unscrewing the T20 torx screws for the sword to open the glove box and reach around or through it rather then laying on your back doing it and you can also unclip the black plug to the Sword the same way... Of course when you put in a new Sword you should change the filter... After removing the Sword and and loosen the mounting bracket for the Sword it can be hard to remove... directly to the right of it toward the firewall there is this long black thing,,, I have no idea what it is but it will move so I moved it a bit to make it easier,,, my patience was getting thin when I couldn't remove the sword mounting bracket until I moved that thing... Ok thats it for my tips... Good luck... You can do it but it will be a P.I.T.A.

Here is the link that helped me... thanks to Shogun!

Thanks for that. I have added some more info about which pin is for what on the sword and then you understand why the sword is so important for the blower fan

And here I have collected all info about repairing the sword. Try to repair yours too, then you have a spare one
