depends if its a good model, yes i think its worth it
but there are alot of people who have a bottom of the range car (like me) and debadge it because they want it to look fast(no i didn't debadge mine).
nobody notices when you pass them doing 140 whats on the back of the car anyway.

i think they come in lots
like 5 and then the 18 and then the i
so you could keep your i and 5 and get a 18.
i must admit that'd be funny, i heard a similar story about merc owners with AMG's putting E270 CDI badges on :p

I'd always wondered if anyone ever put a v12 5.0 in an e34. (or if it's even possible) I'd love to see a 550i badge.

Each to their own. When I see a debadged car I also think 'bottom of the range' but I know it's also done for other reasons. I love the 525i script on the back of my car.

Yeah, well I need to do some more polishing, when I toook mine off (They were quite weathered) I had to use rubbing compound to get the staining off, and I think it was really, really deep into my paint... So now I have wierd silvery shine that barely shines through that reads "525i" when you take pictures of it, or if the sun is at just the right angle, it's wierd. You'l find out soon, I'm sure.

to fix this use bug and tar remover followed by a through polish and wax. I've debadged both my bimmers and using this technique ive been able to avoid that ghost badge look that you describe.

About a debadged ride looking like a low end model, I could give a **** less what people think. As someone here already mentioned they find out exactly what I have as soon as the light turns green :D

Hell, if I had an M5 I would badge it 525i. Why you ask? Well, it goes like this:

1. Would distract most petty criminals - by not publicly acknowledging you have a $100k super beast, it would stop some people smashing the window to look inside.

2. It would help dispell feelings of embarrasment when seeing idiots badge their crapmobiles with an ///M to add HP.

3. Would surprise the crap out of a Boy ricer - "Waddayamean a 525i hit 100km/h before you even dropped your clutch?"

I don´t think debadging looks so hot on black cars. Chrome and black go together well, so I kind of like the badges. Of course I will see if I can score some 518i badges to swap and scare some Mustangs back at home.

Or search in this forum, they have always been widely acclaimed around here.. my approach would be this- twin turbos, twin intercoolers M5 drivetrain. Its been done in e32, and everything but the turbos has been done in e34 before. :) nick

I like the badges, debadged cars always look to me like someone is trying to hide the fact that they have an entry level model.

A guy I worked with once put a 16V badge from a Saab on the back of his Impala. Was really funny, people would ask him if his V8 really had 16 valves.

The thing is there's been a shift is perceptions.

It used to be, you'd tart up your car a bit, remove the badge and everyone would assume it was the top model. Nowadays they'll assume it's the bottom model. I like the shaved look, but don't want to be mistaken for a 525, which is more likely than being mistaken for an M5 ;)

Nah, in honesty, I like the badges, but to each his own.

Your car is a beautiful color, BTW. Is that a factory color?

LOL. Then you can brag that you're in fact faster than an M5, because you've got a turbo (diesel) :)

I believe that it is a factory color, but I'm not sure. The paint tag says Sonderlack, but searching google came up with no results. I've only seen in on a M5 on ebay, never on another 535i. ITs cool because on cloudy days it looks dark gray, and if the sun hits it right its almost a bronze petwer color

Blitzkrieg Bob

That's that #1 reason to debadge your car.

#2 Premature ejaculation (two stokes and you're out!)

#3 Needle dick the bug f**ker syndrome (commonly known as tiny weenie)

Debadging makes ya feel like ya got more under the hood..kinda like a gym sock in the in shorts on prom night.

Note....Most of the world doesn't even understand the whole 518, 525, 530, 535, 540 thing anyway...

so why would anyone think you have a small dick or ejaculate prematurely, if they don't even know what it means when it was on there?

SchnellE34

Yup, they do that a lot in Europe. They have even more reason to than in North America. In North America, you debadge your car to hide the fact that it's just a 525. In Europe you debadge your car to hide the fact that it's a 518. :P

I bet every Mercedes you saw was debadged, too. I lived in Amsterdam for a long time, and the trend was to buy an E220, put big wheels on it and pretend it's an E500.

Personally, I prefer badging but horses for courses......

I would argue, however, this concept of entry level BMW that everyone keeps referring to.

When I bought my M20 2.5 litre E34, it was the most desireable of all the E34 variants in my eyes. I specifically did NOT want a larger or more powerful motor and I feel its balance is perfect. ;)

I am not saying that others don't prefer other variants, but for what I wanted, mine is pefect.

I certainly do not feel any shame associated with my 525i badge. :)

I've got my "535" showing
Most people ask what I've got under the hood and don't know what a 535 is,so I enlighten them ;)

"Oh a 3.5L the gas bill must suck"

No, I enjoy driving my car, if I was driving a 1.5L **** box then I would hate the gas bill.

"Sonderlack" means "special paint" - it's one of those insanely expensive options that most German car manufacturers have. If I were you, I would seek a knowledgeable BMW stealer and ask them if they know the colour code.

Nor should you. You're obviously a bigger man than that. But a lot of people aren't. Hence the tricked-out 18"-wheel-wearing 318tis we see all the time.

hola amigos. im in barcelona right now and wanted to pop in reat fast.

The only reason I am going to debadge mine is that at one point in its life before I bought her, she had some paint work and the badge was placed in the wrong spot.

from copier paper boxes etc.

It slips behind the badge nice and easy, get it a couple of wraps around the badge, cover your hands with a rag, and wiggle wiggle pull pull...pop goes the badge.

I tried dental floss and light guage fishing line and both broke on stuck badges.

after you get all the goop off, use TR-3 resin glaze to remove any evidence of the old badge.

525 and 535 are nice symmetrical numbers... but 530 is goofy looking, thats why i debadged.

on calypso red it does look a lot better without it.

Hence mine's now debadged - albeit the hard way & with lots of swearing/sanding/spraying in! :s (and a smaller roundel while I was at it)
