Must have been hitting the top speed limiter. Apparently the record in Oregon is about 159mpg.

$1100 for 100+? thats ridiculous.

when you're going that fast, and you pass a cop, why in the hell would you ever slow down in the slightest? that's a head start and a half. plus, where was his V1?! cmon now.

It mentions a High Performance 540, can they not realize that a regular 540 will just do that

I'm pretty sure they just mean that a 540i is a high performance car.

You're all ignoring the most important question: When is the 540 being auctioned by the police? (Those auctions are almost always way below regular pricing.)

This is a good point. However, the local cops will likely install some lights and a siren and make that a new "unmarked" unit. That's what they do around here. I saw a guy pulled over this morning on the express way by a cop in a Dodge Ram 250. That's the last thing I'd expect to be pulling me over. Well, that or a e39 540i.

My Dad called me to make sure it wasn't me. That's the second leg of the long trip home when I head that way. That particular road is usually very free of traffic, nice meandering curves for a bit... and then loooooooooong straight stretches (yawn).
