Who has changed their handbrake cable? (car on jackstands)

I removed the old one no problemo. Trying to slide new one back into the housing and it won't go! Looks like the bend won't let it. What to do?

The bentely makes it seem easy: installation is reversal.

they usually push right in, try a little lube and or twisting it
