The first time I came accross this problem I was amazed that the e34 had such a crappy piece of engineering buried so deeply in the dash. I wound up fixing the problem with a combination of metal strips epoxied in as reinforcements, then just quick tied the motor in place. worked nicely.

I am really not looking forward to this repair on my car since it just sucks to perform.
