View Full Version : Resistance value for the MAF

What is the resistance value of the MAF sensor for the M50TU engine? It is a hot film mass air flow sensor. Bentley lists the resistance value only for the M50 engine with hot wire sensor.
I think mine is dead as it is obvious somebody seems to have openned it before. But would like to be sure. I checked the voltage in the connector and I get about 12,30Volts in some of the pins.

Also, my thorttle position sensor resistance reads a range of 1,36Kohms to 4,22Kohms. Fine? Bentley gives values of 1-4Kohms but says it is approximate.

I have a 1995 E34/M50TU and a Fluke DVM. Tell me exactly where (which connectors and pins) you are measuring and I'll try to get you some values to compare.

Now I wonder what the differences will be between the nice, expensive and very accurate FLUKE and t-marat's big investment for his DVV :D


I bought one locally. Paid 3.2$!
DCV: 200mV-100V
ACV: 200, 750
Amperage: 200microA - 10A
Resistance: 200Ohms - 2MOhms
No measurement range for capacitors.
Guess more than enough
Wonder if someday China will start producing goods for free

MAF is located just after the air filter box. It has a connector which is screwed into it. There are 4 pins. I have no idea which pins I should measure. But if you take general measurements and tell me the values I would be more than happy.

Anybody could advise me the resistance values? I measured something like 0.6-0.7 Ohms through right upper and lower pins. Other two pins does not seem to have any kind of circuit.

I think Danzee wants you to measure between arbitrary pins of your choice and give him the values for comparison...

Anybody can help me with the resistance value of the MAF? That thing is extremely expensive, about 400Euros for a new one!

When I unplug it while the engine is running, I see absolute no difference in idle quality. None at all. Tried disconnecting the battery for 2 hours (to reset the DME) and doing it again, no difference in idle again. Can I presume the MAF to be dead?

I have found a used MAF for a reasanable price, seems to be in good condition. But it has 6 pins, whereas mine has 4 pins. Any way of using it in my car? It originally came from a 525i, m50TU engine.

What is the part number? Also mention the Bosch part number, to run across check.

My MAF does not have any numbers on top of it. Maybe on the underside, will check it out.

So it is safe to assume it will not fit my car. After all it has 6 pins, my MAF and the connector have only 4 pins.

When I check the MAF resistance I get about 0.6-0.8 ohms resistance on two of the 4 pins. Others does not seem to have any kind of circuit at all. Is it normal?
