A friend of mine is stuck in Myrtle Beach with a broken ingnition tumbler. He's on vacation there so he really doesn't know anyone. If any one is down there that knows a mechanic thats open today or has any resource to help him out today or tomorrow it would be much appreciated.

Please reply in this thread.

...there is a dealer in Conway, SC (not too far from MB).

Fowler Motors, Inc.
2351 Hwy. 501 E
Conway, SC 29526
(843) 347-4271

There's also Schaeffer BMW in Wilmington, about 1.5 hours away.
4920 New Centre Drive
Wilmington, NC 28403
(910) 392-2700

Danny Alvis is also in Wilmington; might be worth giving him a call. (910) 452-4648. He's a CCA Club Racer in the Tarheel Chapter.

Good luck!

If he decides to go through the dealer, be prepared for the new tumblers and keys to come from Germany explanation. You would be better off going through a locksmith who knows something about these cars or an independent with access to a salvage yard.

There are two names in the FOBMW book that are located in Myrtle Beach, I'll pm them to you for your friend to ask about independents in the area, or other options.

Ken Baker Originals (huge BMW/MB salvage yard) is not far from Myrtle Beach IIRC.. I think they might even do some service work- and they should definitely be able to supply a new (used) part. They do have a reputation for being on the high side, pricewise.....
