I just bought a 1990 525i and last night I was changing the valve cover gasket and found the cam luber pipe broken. I have the BMW part number (11421265376) but no one stocks it. I wanted to know of a good place to get these hard to get parts, that will ship to my house.

Thanks in Advanced

Thanks in Advanced TasManBuy a second hand one, soak it in degreaser overnight and clean carefully not damaging the sprayer holes. Crimp in the middle as per the link Shogun placed this or last week on camshaft stuff at an e21 website (I can't find it, sorry, you;ll need to search the threads he has posted). Get a set of Gale's great banjo bolts to make sure they do not back out at some point and do it all again, torque exactly- no more no less.

Check all your cam lobes for wear as they might have dried up at some point which means you will need to replace the cam and the followers/arm assemblies that worked the worn surfaces too. :( Nick

I called a dealer in Jacksonville that is pretty good and he said he has not sold one of these in over 10 years (computer show time since last ordered). When I removed the valve cover, a piece of the pipe was laying in an oil galley but everything looks O.K. Hopefully I was lucky and the oil was still coming out, where the pipe was broken, as the cam looks undamaged.

huh?

I think this car has an M20 in it, the oil spray bar is a tube with flare nuts on each end.

BMA should be able to get it even if it's not on their website. Call Patrick and ask. 1-888-262-3911.

I'm really starting to sound like a BMA whore around here...

I would think you are correct. Is a looks like a very easy line to break. Maybe the valves have been adjusted recently and that would be a good thing:D .

Yes, well BMA's focus is customer service and they can get anything. Sometimes they are a bit more expensive, but most times they are the cheapest. The people are friendly they don't have an annoying california accent. Not much more you can ask for.

while it's open.

If gorillas broke the spray bar, they may have monkied up the adjustment too.

I hear what you are saying. The spray bar will not be here until next week, so I plan on checking the adjustment to make sure it is correct this weekend:D. Also, can someone tell me if the Powersteering fluid is supposed to be green. I was not sure if it was a special fluid or it was contaminated??

Thanks

power steering, with no LAD system. them you should see some letters on the cap (ATF) or something.

My 1990 525, no LAD just takes good old Dextron III cap says ATF.

My cap does say ATF fluid and my transmission fluid is red but my powersteering fluid looks like someone put Prestone antifreeze in it. They are pretty close together, maybe the last guy got confused:p.

When dealing with parts purchase, there is no loyalty. The cheapest goes. So far my favorite (cheapest) non-dealer parts source is AutoHauz

http://www.autohausaz.com/

They are in AZ. Take at least a week with free UPS ground over $50. But I usually plan my purchase so it is tolerable.

My favorite dealer source, again cheapest, is Bell BMW

http://www.bmw-auto-parts-dealer.com/

They have a complete online system. I get parts from the ETK to enter it on their site online. Sometimes their prices are better than regular mail order houses. Unfortunately they are in my State so I pay shipping and taxes.

If I find a cheaper alternative, I'll switch in a heart beat.

I also found BMW parts prices to be cheaper than my SAAB's in general. The market share has to do with it I think.

who broke the spray bar.

You can flush the system out, by loosing the banjo bolt on the pump letting the green stuff flow out. this may require a couple of fills and runs and flushes since the system has a lot of plumbing and all.

oh, yeah if you are running prestone, you may want to flush that stuff out too, and go BMW blue.

Where is a good place to get the BMW blue coolant? I would not dare to go to the local dealer and ask for it:(.

I just ordered some maintenance parts from http://getcoolparts.com/ . A/C belt , Pentosin 7.1 P/S fluid, Cabin filter and some other stuff. They matched the $18.95 Per/gallon of BMW blue coolant from, http://www.bavauto.com/ ........
Got the free UPS shipping ( with a over $49 order) and no sales tax.
I think most places you order online from will price match.

Tas asks:

<Where is a good place to get the BMW blue coolant?>

If you don't mind a different label on the bottle, get SAAB Coolant. Its the same "blue" Valvolvine Zerex G-48:

https://www.valvoline-technology.com/data/valv/prodinfo.nsf/0/85256AE300727D2BC1256BBF006E46AD/$file/Zerex+G+48.pdf?OpenElement

Even the bottle is the same white color. Only difference is the label.

Here in the SF Bay Area, where BMW coolant sells between $22-30 per gallon, I found SAAB "blue" Coolant at 2 SAAB dealers for $12 per gallon retail.

I've heard some have gotten SAAB "blue" at a "discount" of around $9 per gallon!

Did you e-mail them or call them, to get them to match price? Do you know why the blue coolant is supposed to be so much better than normal green coolant?

Thanks

I always call in parts orders. I prefer to talk to a human.
The BMW blue's additive package is what's recommended, so that's what I've always used in my BMW's.
I think some of the green coolant's will leave the "green slime" in your cooling system.
At least thats what I heard....So don't qoute me........;)
