Slight fuel smell around filter area + hard start first thing in the day =leak and fuel draining out of lines? Sound about right?

I have the same problem, but with me it is an "one way valve" that fails, so the fuel drains back to the thank at night. This makes an hard start in the morning if the car isn't parked equal (leveled).

I have the same problem, hard start and fuel smell around the fuller area. I replaced my fuel filter yesterday, along with one piece of those that was cracked and old. There is another hose that looks like it might be a good idea to change, so i will be changing that.

around the fuel filter are lots of rubber hoses, any of these could be leaking, I recently replaced the lot, fuel lines and brake lines front to back and the hoses, and on a 1989 car they had been patched up over the years but they were a mess
Would suggest you have a good look under there and check for degraded hoses.

I'll be getting under the car tommorrow. I'm expecting to find some hoses in bad shape so I'll get some fuel line before I jack it up. Thanks for your feedback guys.
