I've had an intermitent low beam probloem that is now permanent. I've searched the archives and Brunos sight. Unfortunately the photos of the LKM don't look like mine (below). I'm having difficulty locating the proper areas to solder in brunos procedure.

Could someone sort me out? Any help appreciated.

The LKM is from a 10/90 build date 525im (M50). Its and "LKM-L US" PN 61.35-1391 348-133188.

Am I retarded?

That copper 1cm thing is the relay... the low beam and high beam are next to each other. The other side is the fog light relay.

The low beam is the one closer to the edge of the pair together. The solder point where you want to reflow is on the back side... three solder in straight line.

No matter if the board is the same or not, youre looking for cracks in the solder joints
they look like this:

2739

If you cant find any then maybe you dont have this issue - please tell us what you are experiencing with the lights

Wiggle the relay with your finger while examining the solder joint with a magnifying glass. If the solder is cracked it should be easy to see.

some of the cracks are real hard to see, and if you miss one it'll make you crazy to do it all over.

Don't forget to remove the old solder first. Re-flowing will trap any oxides in the fracture and contaminate the joint. Use solder wick.

Thank you kindly gentlemen. Bill, your pic is priceless, Tiger, Mitch, thanks for the detail. I'll get to work soon and let everyone nkow what happens (remembering to remove old solder).

Oh, and chollum. I was experiencing intermitent passenger side low beam failure. Now its apparently permanent;(

well dont also overlook the possibility of corroded wires going to passenger side low beam, especially on a 1991 car. but check solder connections first
