I've heard that they are legal inn the states since 'waves' are consider as free.

I really need one of these fellas badly. Wich one should I get? I heard that there's 'laser' type and 'waves' type...

Is it the type a thing that you get on ebay off a powerseller?

thanx again

so everyone agree on that 'valentine v1'? that's really the only one that make a 360degree scan?

And is it possible to make it work with no lights (sound only)? because over here in canada it's like a 1k$ fine if you get caught.

Can this work in the glove box or it need to be stick on the windshield?

Also, can cops detect a radar detector?

thanx again for your help!

Radar detectors are passive and can't be detected. Dunno what to buy though, I figure not having one makes me drive the speed limit. But I never do, and still no tickets in 24 years. (knock knock)

Radar detectors are passive and can't be detected. this appers to be false... A guy on another forum just informed me that cop now got a device called Spectre RDD that will detect if you are using a radar detector. :( :( :( :(

God, I love the internet =). awsome place to spread sedition. I Googled and I found these 2 links, the second one is fun. Seems the STi Driver is the way to go, dunno how well it performs though.

Police came with radars.
Drivers answered with radar detectors.
Police replied with radar detector detectors.
Drivers countered with radar detector detector detectors and countermeasures.
Wavelength and signal modulation and therefore reading falsification as well as radar and laser jamming.
Sounds more like Electronic Warfare, not driving.

How about we just carry a gun and take care of ourselves. I'm sure I've heard that somewhere..

I think I'm just going to take the sticking to the speed limit route. They are there for a reason (to cause uneccesary traffic congestions).

Valentine V1 is not stealth... they are detectable within 400 feet.

It is the echo from the radar detector that the police listen to with their radar detector detector.

I have the passport 8500 x50. It works really well and gives me plenty of warning (enough so to slow down and get over in the next lane). Also has 360 degree protection however it doesn't have the indicator arrows that Valentine owns the patent for. You can run both in stealth mode meaning the light on the unit does not show. Valentine is 399 and the Passport is 299. Seems Valentine is a very popular unit but the cost was too much for me. I don't drive really fast anyway, maybe 10-12 over.

Your local stealer has a radar detector that is built into the grill and rear bumper of your car. The indicators are mounted on the right side of your speedo and the left side of your tach. Not sure how much it costs.

Of course nothing will protect you against a laser gun that is turned on when you come into view.

Good luck!

Michael

Radar detectors can be traced by the cops, thats what the VG2 detection is, most these days have VG2 cloaking for this case.

Most radar detectors now a days have 360 degree protection.

My friend has a Bel RX65, I'd buy that before a V1 just based on the cost savings, it's possible to get it for $275-325

There are many detectors that can be concealed, but cost a lot more.

Laser detection only helps if a car up ahead is being clocked, if no cars ahead are hit with laser and your detector reads laser, that means your screwed... I recently got nailed on laser.

I have a Whistler Pro 73 and works good, saved a bundle over the top of the line ones.

Good website for radar detectors.

Bel Express 795 has same performance as the higher Bel without those bells and whistles... cost like $100 or less. Search for test results on internet. This is what I got but I didn't use it lately...

I have been using Escort products ( still have a cordless phone from 95' that has a half mile range from the base!:D ) since they came out in 1989 on my cars & motorcycles and they have saved me thousands of dollars and while group riding I hardley ever buy Breakfast or Lunch!

The 8500 is everybit as good as the V1 and who cares if the unit is in front or behind you...Slow down;)

the v1 also comes with a litle device that u stick vreever u want and hide the actual v1 in inconspicuas place as long as it will get a good reading. i had the passport and changed to the v1 most say they are different but its only a matter of couple of seconds between detection time between the two( when i bought the v1 i gave the passport to a buddy and were cruizing next toeach other for some hours on highway and finaly a cop hits us woth the laser and the passport picked it up maybe 4 5 seconds rolyng at 65 after the v1) i also had a cheap (155$) at best buy but when i got pulled over the cop said he got me on radar doing 70 on 60 and my light sound never budged. also my dad has one but he keeps his in the semi truck hiden away and uses the litlle display device that u can buy extra. well good luck with what ever you are going to get and trust driving the speed limit is better ( altogh it istempting cause of our BMW gogo pedal on the highway.BE SAFE.

What kind of mileage do you get on your Cumming truck?

Correct. The RDD scans for the collected RF Signals the Radar detectors use to determine which signals are there - JT

I use the Escort z1 Laser Shifter to Jam the lasers - They work very very well. Once you get hit or painted with a laser - it sends out a signal back to the laser gun that confuses it until you release it. Before you release the jam - you slow down. Then release. The cop re-shoots your speed which should now be legal. Everythings cool.

Laser detection on the Radar detectors is good enough to let you know that you "just got a ticket". - JT
