Have found a source for genuine German licence plates, and they will print what ever you want on them, up to 10 letters/numbers. Seeing as I will be getting some, may as well see if anyone else in NZ wants any (saves on shipping).

Not bad, but not quite that cheap as the price is for 1 plate only, the place I found in Germany does both for about $9USD plus shipping.
