alert chime

Hallo .my chime (the one thats gives audio alerts) sounds all of a sudden like its being choked. It scares me every time I hear it. Where is it located and how can it be replaced?

Mine is under the dashboard. pull the lower dash. If your car has an air bag it will have this big massive plate under the pad. it removes with four bolts and you shoud be able to get right to it. My car is a 89 535i 5speed.:)
