Should there be a hole here? It's a 't' piece attached to the brake booster. It would appear to be correct.

Hmmm. Looks suspicious. That exact part is not on a 535i. However, there's a similar little take-off on the booster check valve on the 535 and it should be blocked.

Sure is! This is why it confuses me. I understand that it should be sealed although the piece looks like it was built with the hole. I don't want to seal it up if it was mean't to be there.

On my 525iA, at that point there's a nipple for a vacuum hose that runs to the interior through a hole in the firewall beside the heater pipes. It's used to draw interior air over the temperature sensors in the footwells. It looks like yours is broken off.

It looks like there should be an extra piece that attaches where the whole is but where are all the hoses gone? I can't understand why a car that has been dealer/specialist serviced all its life would have a whole section of plumbing removed.

There was a nipple with a rubber cap on it.

Looks like yours got snipped off. Just plug it with a small screw and gasket sealer.

dude, isn't some of these non tapped? some pull vacuum and others are blocked I think. The only way to tell is have it idle and stick your finger up to it or anything else youll feel it from. If theres nothing to attach it to then plug it. If it needs plugging id squeeze some silicone in it after work so it can dry overnight with the engine heat.

Be careful with that silicon, O2 sensors don't like it.

dude, isn't some of these non tapped? some pull vacuum and others are blocked I think. The only way to tell is have it idle and stick your finger up to it or anything else you'll feel it from. If theres nothing to attach it to then plug it. If it needs plugging id squeeze some silicone in it after work so it can dry overnight with the engine heat.On all M30 (535is) there is a similar vacuum take-off that was covered with a rubber bung. On mine the rubber had deteriortated and when I was checking for vacuum I broke the 2cm pipe off with my finger it was that brittle. Bought a new return valve from the stealer, but had to get a new bung to seal it.

This is a great place to pull vacuum for accessories, silly to leave it vented to the atmposhere of course; if your car has no use as previously described in the thread, just seal it off. :) Nick

Wow, small world!

I heard a hissing sound yesterday and I discovered a “hole” in the check valve for the power brake booster. Apparently the bung and cap busted off. My quick and lazy fix was several wraps of electrical tape. Problem solved.

I would suggest a very small self-tapping screw with some eurethane or sealant of some other kind over the thread. The kind that are used to screw cassette tapes together are ideal. :) Nick

I was just meaning to post a question asking where this vacuum hose should go. Mine appers to be broken from the other side, but it's definitly going somewhere from this hole.

Worth heaps Bo. Thanks for the pic. It doesn't show it on realoem. I've got an inconsistent idle and thought that I might be vacuum leak related. I put my finger over the hole but it made no difference. I'm thinking that I didn't allow enough time for system to pressurise. Thanks all for your input! Another example of why I remain on this forum.
