possible but not easy... they will have to be cut out and new ones welded in, it's a bit of a hack job and not even that cheap.. my mechanic just did one on an E36 and the cost was $1200AU ! geh !

i think someone in the forum has done this job recently too..

edit: not sure if it's possible on the center joint actually.. i only know it can be done with the rear

Yes it can be done. I just had this job done on my 1 u-joint drive shaft and the cost was $220 US

They pulled out the u-joint, machined it a little bit and put in a replaceable Nissan u-joint from a 300zx, I think... Works good as far as I can tell so far.

A good machine shop can do almost anything with a drive shaft. the real problem is getting it balanced. Many machine shops have trouble balancing BMW driveshafts, make sure they have actualy done it before you let them do the work.

you can probably source a good but used driveshaft for less than what it'd cost to weld new joints on

True, if it's an automatic, I have one for sale -- $60 or $70, forget what I was asking for it, in the Swap Meet section.
