While looking at some short shifters on the "Bay" last night, I noticed one that had a weighted collar on the shift lever. I immediately thought of the weighted rod thing where you wrap solder around the shifter rod to give it more mass and a better "feel". Doing the weight on the bottom of the shift lever would really be easy since you can just wrap it around the bottom of the lever where it goes into the rubber dust boot.

I have also seen weighted knobs from UUC and others.

Anyone have any experience with this stuff?

I ordered one of those knobs, but haven't installed it. I don't have a manual transmission yet. But I will soon. I intend to do the solder wrapping trick around the selector rod, too. What I've read suggests that one is not a substitute for the other, but the two mods complement each other. People who've tried one or the other seem very happy. I'm going to try both.
