Repainting Wheels - Basketweaves

I have read all the good info on repainting wheels and am curious to know how much of a pain it would be do DIY a set of basket weaves? Just cleaning these things on a regular basis makes one want to throw them as far as they can and get a set of M Parallels or even throwing stars.

I am wondering how tough it is to prep them and then to paint them with the old rattle cans we are talking about and have a good finish in all the nooks and crannies.

Is it worth trying or is this one for the pro's?

I am currently in the middle of re-finishing a set of style 32 wheels off a E39 540 sport and have about 6 hours into it and about 10 hours remaining, but I am taking my time and stripping off all the old finish.

I suppose it depends on how valuable your time is to you, personally, I like the gratification more than the savings.
