i think my leaf blower has more ass then that thing

"A stock turbo from an Audi 1.8T produces 400CFM. Adding an Air Intake Blower will produce more then half of the power than a stock Audi 1.8T turbo would but you don't need to do any modifications to your engine. 250CFM of forced air can also be compared to a 15-25 shot of Nitrous."

wow

a 2.0 4 cylinder engine takes in around 210 cfm, it doesn't matter how many cubic feet per minute that thing pushes unless it has the ass to deliver it at a few pounds of pressure, it's absolutely useless, lets say for arguments sake it makes a couple hp which i doubt you are using a fair amount of power to run the (bilge) blower that the altermator sucks back out of the engine

Trivia time- anyone on this board been around long enough to remember the ORIGINAL BMW Digest from the mid-90's??

It was almost completely overrun with chatter + arguements when a guy named Mark Kibort started posting crap about his "electric supercharger" and making all sorts of ridiculous claims about it. People started calling for him to post real live proof along with the claims, and he kept on and on and on.... Alot of people got really PO'ed about the whole thing- every email digest was full of posts about this POS. This eventually led to the start of the UUC digest (Rob Levinson and co.).

I think Kibort called his invention the Eram.

Hey Whit, ask Brett if he remembers this- I'm pretty sure he was active on that board back in the dizay......

there has been real electric superchargers over the years, but they are more like a paxton with a starter motor bolted to it, and thusly draw tons of power, good rule of thumb if it's shiney snaped together plastic it's a bilge blower for a boat

Oh Crap!

and a pic of our friend Mr Kibort at the bottom of the page.

I wonder if this guy has any idea that he personally led to the downfall of one of the earliest + best BMW boards?

In theory, this idea could work. After all, freight trains are driven by electric motors at the wheels, which are in turn powered by diesel generators. So, an electric motor could provide sufficient torque to spin the compressor wheel of a supercharger.

Real world practice, however, is another matter. AFAIK, not one of these aftermarket electric superchargers is worth fooling with. The eBay advertisement only notes ~1 psi boost, which may not be enough even to offset the interference drag losses imposed by the installation into the intake air flow.
