I had my shift knob from UUC for ages, i think like 2 years. Great knob and i bought it "blemished" but had no visible issues. A year after, it started to pit. I think the pitting was in a clear coat on the top, but it didn't look cleared. Anyway, it got worse and worse little black specks of pitting on the visible areas. Tonight, I put a 10mm socket in my high speed polisher, I then slipped the shiftknob over the 10mm socket and locked it down with the set screw. I turned it on the buffer with sand paper in my hand from 100, 250, 320, 600, 1000, 1000 wet, 2000 and then 2000 wet. Afterward I used Mother's Aluminum polish and buffed the **** out of it. The results are a brand new looking shiftknob for only 15 minutes of labor. So, for all those with imperfect metal shift knobs, just polish 'em up!

Pics tomorrow.
