I just got DSL at home, and now I get these annoying pops that are instructing me to click okay and head to "winregfix.com"

Any ideas on how to be rid of this? TIA!!

Do they say "Messager Service" at the top?

If so.

Right Click "My Computer"
Left Click on "Manage"
Left Click on the Plus sign next to "Services and Applications" (if it's there)
Left Click on "Services"
On the right hand window, scroll down to "Messager"
Double Left Click on "Messager"
Change Startup Type to "Disabled" via the drop down box
Left Click "Stop"
Left Click "Apply"
Left Click "Ok"
Close out of the manage window via the X in the upper right

These directions are wrote for Windows XP... I don't have a 2000 computer in front of me but it should be close.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks

Charles

You could have a mess on your hands. Some of those messenger attacks can install malware without any user intervention.

1) make sure the XP (I'm assuming, you didn't say anything about what you're using) firewall is enabled.

2) disable messenger as someone else said.

3) go to safety.live.com -- the microsoft free web-based malware detection/removal service -- and let them run a full scan on your system. It will take a while. They will ask permission to install some resident code, active-x, etc. Allow it.

4) never connect to the internet without a firewall of some sort.
