My mpg on my 1991 M50 2.5 non Vanos is really quite bad... getting a bit annoyed with the amount of fuel im going through. Its very expensive here in the UK.

My driving is 80% town and 20% motorway, and Im getting about 22mpg most of the time.

Do other 525i owners find it this bad ?

I was wondering if there could be some sensor somewhere that might be gone and causing it to run too rich...

That's about what I average. Mine is an automatic though. I'd think you'd get a little better than that.

I have the 1995 VANOS equivalent in an automatic, and I thought my milage was pretty bad until I did an 800 mile road trip. On the interstate, I was getting 29-30 MPG. Daily commute is mostly city road traffic, and I get 21.5 to 22, so I think you're about right. Recognizing that you're driving a 15-year-old 6-cylinder performance sedan might help keep things in perspective. :)

Then again I drive it kinda hard.

That sounds quite good to me, I’m only getting 17.5 Mpg according to the obc on my daily commute! (not sure how accurate that is though!!)

The bad weather has an affect on that though, plus its only 7 miles on country roads.
