Hi,

I am a proud owner of a 2003 330i. It's my first BMW :-) I bought it certified and "pre-owned", and it drives fantastic, but I've noticed that whenever I first start the car and put it in drive or reverse, the car jerks or moves up or down (it's an automatic). It doesn't seem to be as noticeable later in the day after I have driven it for a while.

I've driven only manuals until I got this car, so I am not sure if this is normal. The movement is not so severe that it scares me, but it's VERY noticeable. I will see the BMW dealer about it, but any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Yeah... it's normal.

I went to the dealer and checked out another 3-series automatic. What I felt was just the car getting into gear. The movement is more pronounced when idling at higher rpms (i.e. when the engine is cold). When the engine is warm, the idle rpm is lower and I can hardly feel it.

Love my BMW! :D

Surprised you went from driving all manuals to an auto especially a BMW auto :)

You gotta watch your hot coffee before going into "D" :D
Nice that you post your findings from the dealer.
