Well its finally done - Pundits genius sword repair has been accomplished by the world's worst solderer -and its in and working ! Yipee :D

I found that I needed to solder the same capacitor connection as Pundit's fix.

For those who have been following the saga, I finally got the sword back in using kev535i's advice of enlarging the slot for the sword - worked a treat.

I now have all the fan speeds again - what a luxury ! :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you ! ;)

Glad you got it sorted.
The capacitor joint problem appears it may have been a production issue. The capacitor leads had been cut too short with the leads barely poking through the printed circuit board. This led to a poor solder joint.

It's likely many capacitors in a particular production run may have had their leads cut too short and as a result our sword modules (and who knows how many more) developed the same fault.

One of my jobs is production manager in a company that manufactures electronic security products.
When everything is based on repetition, quality control is critical as one fault can become many thousands of faults as consistancy in production multiplies both the good... and the bad! ;)

Please link the fix thread again, as I seem to be experiencing a 2-speed position III on my fan.

Another fix based on Pundits savy advice. Soldered the same capacitor and set to go with multi-speed fan operation on my '89 535i.

I have made a write-up of all repairs I could find in various boards, this includes also the repair of Pundit, of course, and he is mentioned :)
