I have searched until I couldn't stand it any longer. There is so much info, much of it conflicting, so I'm asking here.

My 01/1995 525i has an Alpine5 head unit (verified via prog/minus keys) and I recently bought a BMW CD changer A, model number TR1003, part number 82 11 1 468 014. The connectors were an exact match for the ones in my car and the head unit recognizes the CD changer. The changer finds the CDs in the magazine and tries to play them, but all I ever get is a "Disc Error" message. It even sees which slots in the magazine I've loaded CDs into, but no matter what, it will not play. It definitely loads the cd into the player without jamming.

At first, I was positive that it was simply a matter of the changer itself being bad (purchased used), but now I'm thinking it's a compatibility issue.

Anyone have experience with this setup??

I think the Tr1003 is compatible with newer e34 models like 1995's, but don't quote me. I kinda have the same problem, but I don't have the 6 individual Cd inserts, so I think that's the problem.

Edit: Just saw that you have a 1995, I thought you said it was a 1991 when I first looked lol. Anyway I think it should work, maybe try to clean the lense out.

Yeah, I've seen that. Unfortunately, it doesn't address this particular issue. It definitely doesn't give a compatible unit (Model or part number) for the Alpine5.

I went through this about 3 years ago when had a dead non-fixable Alpine unit. The 95 e34 with an apline 5 radio will only work with specific Alpine or Pioneer units branded (I think) with the BMW name. I got mine from E Gus Mancy in Ohio. Mine is a cdx-m91zbm made by Pioneer. The 91 is the year made, supposedly made from 1991 to 1998

FYI, he does not answer the email address I had for him. Not sure why.

I would recheck the archives and/or do a web search. I saw a chart somewhere saying which units will work with a e34.

Good luck

Well, I had a brilliant idea - I looked in the manual!

I totally forgot that I actually had it. The manual says specifically that my Head unit should control two different changers: 82 11 1 468 014 (the TR1003) OR the 82 11 1 467 700 (looks a bit different - probably the cdx-m91). So I'm guessing that the TR1003 CD player I got was bad.
