Not really sure what happened. Maybe someone will know.
I had to apply my brake hard to aviod hitting a semi that had pulled out in front of me. I slowed from approx. 70mph to a complete stop. When I went to take off , I pressed the accellerator but didn't go anywhere. I could hear the engine rev up, but nothing. Then all of a sudden I felt the trans slide into gear and everything worked.
Did all of the fluid drain away from the pickup or something during the hard braking?
Is this normal?
The transmission fluid seems to be at the correct level??
The car is '91 E34 525i.
Thanks,
Will

I've done this twice, once misssing a deer and another just plain missing a stop sign. I assumed it was low on tranny fluid so being young and dumb at the time (still am?) I took it to my school for the auto teacher to look at, he said it was a quart low. (who knows if he did it right, or even checked! I'm sure I insulted him printing out the procedure from Bruno's site and giving him) When I replaced my timimg chain a lot of fluid came out the cooler hoses, so I refilled it and KNOW there is fluid in their now. I haven't had any close enough calls to find out again, but thats fine with me! My 2¢

have you checked the fluid correctly, with the car level, running and at the correct trans temp? (hot but not hot enough to burn your hand)

Nope, Checked it cold. Added a bit.
I'm going to Bruno's sight to get the info on the correct method for checking it. I'll bet it's low.
Thanks,
Will
