Is there any reason that it would be "bad" to unbolt the transmission mount and lower it a few inches to access the seletor seal and wiring plug? This would leave the engine and transmission attached and cause the motor to tilt back on its mounts a slight amount.

Unbolting the rear mounts and allowing it to lower shouldn't be a problem. It certainly makes reaching the B!tch clip on the manuals a bit easier. Not sure how much heavier the autos are, but you miht want a jack handy to control things.

Its best to leave the floor jack underneath the transmission when you lower it.

watch the back of the engine so that any hoses/fuel lines/wiring dont get pulled too far.

sure that you don't hit anything on the back side...Whenever i do it on a car , a few inches always turns into a few more inches and a few more.. If you tilt it too far which isn't much then the fan will either hit the top of the fan shroud and you'll crack some blades or the bottom of the fan will hit the radiator core.

Alright, thanks for the help everyone! I will use a floor jack to rest the transmission on, and to put it back in place.
