We can personally invite our fellow Californians. Where is Ralph? Pyro--are you in?

Are you going to be spending the night in SB Gayle?

I'll be heading to LA on sunday, after I hop onto UCSB for a hour or so in the morning to check it out. Maybe, after the fest...we can caravan down south to LA. haha.

I'll try to think of something that the e34's can do. Maybe a meetup at night? or early sunday morning. We'll see.

I went last year with my E30, but I can't say I was too thrilled. All the cars are much newer and seem to come with the type of people that folks refer to as "BMW drivers," if you get my drift. The highlight for me was seeing a total jackass jump his E36 M3 off a 3-foot median on the freeway at 35+ after pulling what had to've been the dumbest move I've ever seen someone make on a public road. Very dramatic and entertaining, especially since he narrowly missed me on the way there instead of taking me and everyone else out.

But it could be cooler this year, since all the cars will be together instead of just the elite...

I agree....there are some freaking stupid jackasses that attend this event.

BUT, this year...there is not road rally after the event, therefore...no stupid jackasses killing the whole group.

I'm going, with or without E34 (means I'll need a ride). I still have to fix my E34, hopefully it'll be good by bimmerfest. Last year was great. Most fun was the drive down there from norcal. Make hotel reservations soon.

If your cars not fixed by then, I can most likely repay your ride down from last year :)

I think an E34 event where we break off from the HUGE group would be fun. Looks like there are 15 of us so far. Last year there had to have been more E34s than that. Lots of them that I had never seen on the forums.

I didn't see where the number of e34s are listed. Where is it?

It had not occured to me that we would show our cars. I was just going to look at the pimped out cars. Reading last years stuff on another forum I just remember that parking and hotels space was at a premium, so I got the idea it was more a spectator event. Do they put all the e34s together or is it random? (Note to self--call Indy and see when my eisenmann is going to get here).

What did you have in mind for an event?

I was just planning to go up in the morning and come back that night so my husband will let me out unsupervised.

If you want help getting past that problem, let me know. I am old, female, and married. I have had two extremely responsible careers. I have a great driving record. So from most parents view, I am pretty safe. On paper, I fit the ideal profile of a school chaperone. I could talk to them if you really want. (I won't let them know I am really an adolescent brat at heart).

Yikes. 3 hour drive one way to SD =X.

Getting all the e34's together might be hard, but the showgrounds should be huge. I really can't think of anything we can do. Dinner would be kind of late- since you will be driving back. Maybe a drive after the "show" is done...just along the coast to take pictures or something.

lets start a list of who's going, and who wants to meet up:

I remember seeing your car there last year. It was CLEAN. Like, everything looks brand new. Lennart stole your spot later on in the day haha

As for an event, we could try to coordinate something where we all break off and go out to lunch somewhere. Either that or we could go on a quick drive after the event.

Here's the stats on the types of cars attending bimmerfest:
http://www.bimmerfest.com/event.php?action=currentstats

Has everyone here who's going registered? I'd be expecting at least 20 E34's, even though I'm sure a few of them will be non-info people.

Both sound good. Lunch would let us talk and get to know each other.

Drive is good. I think Santa Barbara is the most beautiful city on the CA coast. There is some nice scenery there. Anyone familiar enough with Santa Barbara to suggest a drive? I don't think we should do the coast because traffic is very sluggish along there on weekends. There are some nice back roads around Montecito or for a longer drive there is the road to Ojai.

It has wide sandy beaches lined with palm trees along 101. The downtown is all old mission architecture. The whole town is pretty affluent so there are almost no blighted areas. The entire city is ringed with a mountain. Big Sur is a little bit to the north. The whole place is goregous. It is the first city I went to a lot before moving to CA. I thought all of CA looked like that and was dissappointed it didn't.

Yeah, SB's beautiful. Big Sur is actually a lot to the north, but that's my favorite place on the coast for all-out stunning grandeur...

I'm in LA and would meet up if everyone's meeting up. I'd much prefer to be part of a group of "older" BMWs...

Longboards Grill is fine with me. The Harbor is far enough away from the fairgrounds that I would not expect it to be overrun by bimmernuts. Is it on the pier?

What is the deal on the caravan? I really don't know any other SD BMW enthusiasts other than the guys who work at the indy. You pm was the first I have heard about the caravan. Where will people meet up in LA? Mike (Califblue) and I were going to hook up on 405 near LAX.

I have been thinking about your last post on the restuarant. I was wondering if we could get pizza delivered to the fairgrounds instead of leaving. Maybe a cooler in the trunk. The logistics of getting 10 of us to a restuarant on the pier could be tough. Maybe drinks at Longboarders after the event? Any thoughts?

We should also exchange cell numbers. I will pm everyone on the list and collect them and distribute them.

I am hopeful that I will finally have my eisenmann by then. The indy said he finally got confirmation it has been shipped (ordered between Christmas and New Years).

Gayle, here are the detail on the socal caravan.

Okay everyone, here are the official meet points for the 2K6 Bimmerfest Socal (SD, OC, LA) caravan:

We begin in Chula Vista (San Diego's South Bay). We will meet at the Vons in Terra Nova Plaza off 805 & E. H Street. We will leave there at 4:30am sharp. Contact person is either OG Skooler or Slickav

The San Diego meet point will be at the Carlsbad Outlets. There is a Starbucks there, ample parking and a Chevron if people need gas. People should be there before 5:30am, we leave 5:30am for the OC. Contact person is OG Skooler or Slickav

The OC meet point will be at the Starbucks in the Huntington Beach Mall. Once again, there is a Starbucks and ample parking. People should meet there before 6:30am, as we will leave for the LA caravan meet point once the SD caravan arrives & gets some coffee. Contact person is either: Discombobulated or Second 2 None.

The LA meet point will be at Balboa Park in Encino. People should gather there before 7:30am, we will leave for Bimmerfest once the rest of the caravans arrive. Contact person is Brad D.

We should make Bimmerfest by the time the fairground's gates open at 9:00am.

*Important things to remember*

-Enjoy the drive, this is NOT a race!!
No need for it, we will have at least 200 BMW's (all models) going to Bimmerfest from Socal in the caravan. The freeways are only 4 lanes wide and there will be others on the road that Saturday morning...you can figure it out. We will get there in time, there's plenty of parking as it is the fairgrounds and not the dealer. Be cool, enjoy the drive with your fellow enthusiasts and let's all get to Bimmerfest safe & ticket less.

-Yes, CHP & local po-po know of this caravan, some are members of the different boards and do drive BMWs. So, do not ask if they know about this caravan.

*Checklist*

~Prep your cars the night before: check tire pressure, oil & coolant levels and get gas.
~If you have Walkie-Talkies, bring them. We will let you know what frequency we'll be using at the meet points.
~If you have radar detectors, bring them.
~This will a long drive for most of us, bring something to keep you awake and alert. (i.e.: soda, water, snacks, significant other, whatever!)
~Bring, at least, $10 for entrance fee into the fairgrounds.

As of today 3/21/06:

We have approx. 32 cars at the San Diego meet point
We have approx. 43 cars at the OC meet point.
We have approx. 106 cars at the LA meet point.

After hearing about how crowded it was at Encino and how many people got speeding tickets for going 90 and more, I am much less enthusiastic about the caravan.

And as far as the free food, Lennart describes it as an hour wait for a nasty hot dog. Longboarder's is sounding good again.

liquidtiger720
03-23-2006, 11:22 PM
that sounds good. But what time for lunch? I would like to be at the fest for the raffles. :)

Gayle. PM me on where you want to meet up then. the group does sound too big.

Gayle. PM me on where you want to meet up then. the group does sound too big.

Mike is researching a location for us, probably off the 101 near Hollywood.

I am going to research having food delivered from a resturant. Already been turned down by one delivery service because they don't do Saturday lunch.

Also regarding the raffle, Mike says he won several prizes and they mailed them to him. But I will still try to figure out a solution so we don't have to eat nasty hot dogs but don't miss the raffle.

Gayle
03-24-2006, 08:24 AM
Josh--what time does the raffle start?

Longboarder's is only 3.5 miles away and there is a back route that would allow us not to get on 101 if there is stand still traffic. It doesn't look like there are any restuarants in walking distance.

Mike was talking about some people that got there early and staked out an area under trees.

To anyone who has been to bimmerfest before---If I got there early would the parking nazis let me stake out 7-8 spaces for our group?

Here is my understanding of who is likely to go:

From NorCal

Anton CH
Pyro (Aren't you riding with someone? Is it Anton?)
SC David
Lennyz525i

From SoCal
Califblue
Kristiphur
Liquidtiger (NoCal but came over from the dark side for the week)
Gayle

From Minnesota
Triton540 (Are you driving or flying?)

Not sure when the raffle starts, the details have not been posted yet.

Josh you have a raffles obsession :) If it's anything like last year it's at the end of bimmerfest. Can't we just meet up after bimmerfest, it'll be a bitch getting out of the place and cell phone contact will be needed, but there's nothing like 500 bmws trying to get out of somewhere. Downtown are a few great places but they might be packed, even though it wasn't bad at all last year, but that was on friday late afternoon.

About the hotdogs, it was really more like a snack, not lunch. I'm not even sure if they were nasty cuz I probably didn't even try one. Havin said that, the lines were looooonnngggg, no joke. Given this years record breaking attendance, they might be even longer.

You know we could always just bring stuff for sandwiches (we do this at the US GP motorcycle races);)

Fresh rolls:
Salami
Turkey
Provolone Cheese & Swiss
Lettuce
Tomatoes
Onions
Drinks/ Beer :D
you get the idea?

Mike--You were going to try to bring a friend who had a touring. Has he or she agreed?

You could tell him or her that you have some rowdy e34 friends who want to trash their car with a tailgate party. That should cinch the deal.:D

I do like the idea of bringing food and drinks instead of leaving the grounds. Does the fairground let you bring in alcohol. In Del Mar, I don't think you can get alcohol on to the fairgrounds so they force you to purchase it from the vendors. Do they have a beer vendor at this event?

They ought to! Let's have an E34 party on the fairgrounds!

I was just looking at the Pelican Parts photo gallery and its 500+ pictures. I'm stoked now.

e34s are definitely unrepresented at bimmerfest. Think about the fact there are 16,000,000 people in the LA metro area and 3,000,000 in the San Diego metro area, and how there is a BMW in every driveway. Then think about there are only 24 e34s registered and there are only 4 people from SoCal going that are active on this board. That is just wrong.

As many e34s are there are on the road here, I am think I should become a missionary for bimmer.info. Leave business cards for bimmer.info on windshields every time I see one parked. LOL

Anyway, here are a few pictures to get the other 8 or so fellow bimmer.info members attending as stoked as I am. You know how I love engine bling.

Are you guys planning on trekking up the 405 and onto 101?

According to Microsoft Street and Trips, there is a "buritto king" (lol) that is right at the 405/101 split. I'm sure they have a parking lot.

Burrito King
4989 Sepulveda Blvd
Sherman Oaks, CA 91403

Califblue and Kristupher are in charge of the meet up location.

And my girlfriend that owns the Harley is going to go with me. :) And my eisenman is getting installed Wednesday. Can hardly wait.

I am still thinking about ordering from Domino's Pizza and having them deliver to the gate. Would that work for you guys?

We could each bring a 6 pack of interesting beer. I have an Arrogant Bastard Ale tee shirt I have been dying to wear somewhere and this may be its first wearing. And what is an Arrogant Bastard tee shirt without some Arrogant Bastard ale? Or I could tap into Hubby's interesting beer collection. (I actually have 2 ABA shirts--one says "Fizzy yellow beer is for wussies" and the other says "You're not worthy".)

This is just sounding better and better. I'm not sure how easy it will be to get in and out of the fairgrounds, but I'm gonna guess it'll be pretty chaotic all day long. If we can get ourselves organized it will probably be easier to do the sandwiches/pizza thing. I gotta make up my mind in the poll!!

Gayle

Something like the blue thing would be nice. Mike said it was 95 degrees last year. I have been to SB many times and never seen it over 70, but I don't want to fry if there is a freak warm spell. I am a wimp when it comes to the sun. Even if it not unseasonably warm, it would be nice to have something like this cause it would give us a place to gather.

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c21/e34Gayle/ShadescreenSmall.jpg

There would be room around the perimeter of the parking lot to set it up.

Gayle
04-05-2006, 10:13 PM
Here is the plan as I understand it.

Josh, Mike, Pat and I will be arriving from the south and will be getting there on the early side. I am bringing cold pizza. Mike wants to stop at the grocery and get sandwich stuff. Anyone who wants to chip in for sandwiches and soda should pm me.

Mike has a shade thingy so the four of us will be parked together at a place we can put up the shade thingy. We will also have a cooler that will have soda but no beer. We all have each other's cell numbers so we can find each other. We are thinking of it as a gathering place where we can sit and talk.

Most of us don't want to leave the fairgrounds during the event because we want to be at the raffle. The event breaks up at 3:30 and I would be happy to go to a restuarant on the wharf with anyone that wants to go, even the under-aged. Drinking is not required.

I know nothing about the unofficial road rally. Josh--tell us about the unofficial road rally.

I don't know who is staying overnight. I think Hypr5 is. Reading last years bimmerfest website I think it mentioned places that the under-aged could go.

How about if we call you when we get to the edge of Santa Barbara? You could meet us (Califblue, his friend Pat-the Touring owner, Liquidtiger720 and me) at the grocery store where we are getting the sandwich stuff. Then we could all go in the gate together and park together. That would only leave Anton CH and SC David not entering together. Maybe we could save spaces for them and we could all be parked together.

Mike had a Ralph's grocery in mind and I think this is it. Earl Warren Fairgrounds are at the corner of 101 and Las Positas. Really close. And as Mike pointed out Ralph's has an expresso bar for the caffeine inclined.

I'll message you with Mike's home number. He is the one who knows the time. I'm calling him in the am when I hit Huntington Beach. I don't even know what time that will be. I am just leaving my house at the time he told me. I don't have a good sense of northern LA geography. I know were we are meeting you, but not how far it it is from where I am meeting Mike.

I have been detailing in the dark. Had one of those "duh" experiences. A month ago when I cleaned my wheels I discovered there was an inner half I could clean too. Well tonight I realized I could clean the zimmermans. Duh. Sometimes my cluelessness cracks me up. So I was out there with a flashlight trying to clean my brakes. Too funny.

I am so excited about driving through camp pendleton in the am with my glass cleaned with Stoner's invisible glass. Clean glass plus beautiful scenery plus a fun car--only a few things better than that. I think we should have a contest tomorrow. Mike will probably have the cleanest engine bay and SC David will have the best wax job (look who did it). You will probably have the best overall.

Note to self: pack detailing spray and microfiber towels (be prepared for tough crowd).
