I cannot get the stomp test to work on my 1994 530iT. I know the procedure and it works fine in the M5 but the Touring does nothing. Is there something about this model and the stomp test that I'm not aware of? TIA.

Curt.

I tried it once in my 94 530 and it didn't work either, so I didn't bother with it lol.

Mine usually works but it gets autistic once in awhile (memory saturated?). If I disconnect the battery overnite, it snaps out of it and works properly & displays a 1-4-4-4 (no faults) -- at the expense of losing whatever fault might have previously been stored. If there is a problem, it will trip the CEL again and store a fault.

I know it is basic but you have got a good bulb in the CEL light socket haven't you?

fault codes (http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/trouble/engine_codes.htm) from bruno's website. they tell you a bunch of stuff that you might not have known was wrong with your car.

Yea, the light is just fine. I screwed around with it for about 30 minutes yesterday and it just doesn't want to come out and play. Sigh. . .

Yea, the light is just fine.Have always been able to get mine spitting codes Curt, but it does take some finesse.
It seems to work only within a very tight time frame; the stomps can be too fast just as easily as too slow. Try to get them around a stomp/second and report back……

Okay Paul, reporting back. I tried it fast, slow and in between, with my right foot and then my left (that almost caused a hernia!) and I get nada, zippo, zilch. Just a bunch of idiot lights looking back at the idiot in the driver's seat. It just doesn't seem like it's meant to be.
