hey guys,
I'll be looking at a '94 540 with 125000 miles on the clock tomorrow. Now I know about the nikasil problem and, owning a '94 520 for the last 18 months, all about normal 5 series suspension clonks, steering and general problems but is there anything specific to the 540 I should look for?

v8 issues are that pcv valve thingy, leaking valve cover gaskets which may give you coil pack trouble, nikasil, motor mounts, and oil pump bolts.Thats what i have picked up on during my stay here!

When I installed the EAT chip mine went from 23MPG on the HWY to 26MPG. I get 18-19 around town. What does your six get? From Albequrque to Phonenix (which is up and over the continetal divide, I got 26.4MPG for the 300+ mile trip.

Thats all very well but you Americans dont pay $1.67 per litre, which is i think about $6.37 a gallon

The prospect of improving my fuel economy AND performance is very appealing.

I'm guessing the EAT chip is what most people in the states go for, but am I right in thinking these won't work in UK cars?

Can anyone offer advice on what would be a good equivalent for the UK cars? specifically a 1995 540iaT.

Thanks

whats the difference really in fuel economy between a 540 and a 525....in the overall scheme of things??

In my 520 I can average about 25mpg urban driving, 30 on the motorway. I don't mind the consumption; everything has a price. For instance a 540 is an insurance group 19 car so apart from the consumption the insurance isn't cheap either.

Keeping my right foot out of it...:D...an EAT-chipped 540/6...

20 mpg(Imp) City
29-30 mpg(Imp) Hwy

6-speed = a shade over 2000 at 65pmh...

Cheers,
