So does anyone else here feel that the non-Vanos M50 engine has a heavy flywheel?
I’ve been driving alot of cars lately since Kelly is shopping (****, we’re shopping, YIKES). I remember when a guru from the Sentra forum drove my 3er and said that too, it really seems like it to me now.
OR is it that it’s about the right weight for the 5er?
*confused*

Oh, a little OT but......
List of cars driven in reverse order, 1st gen Toyota MR2, Masdaspeed Miata, Honda S2000, Mazda 3 wagon, WRX wagon, Infinity G20 (the only auto, still trying to locate a stick). Notice the sports car heavy nature of the most recent drives. Kelly was originally thinking a couple of weeks before purchase. Now that she's driving the NX............. (best sound system i've put together in a decade, the usual 4year C&D top10 winning Nissan b13/sr20 goodness on snow tires w/ LSD), it's a few months. *sigh*
The research focus shifted from a new-to-her car, and is more me replacing 'Carla'. *rolleyes*
Welllllllll........a few months and we're in the middle of autoX/track school season and Kelly may not like the full sports car setup (springs, poly bushings, struts set to shake&bake) daily anyway.
Front runner is the 1st gen MR2, 94-95 Miata (darkhorse) and just to satisfy my curiosity (and appease you brand loyalists here) i'll drive an e30........but it is a loooooong shot.

This is looking pretty good actually.

~2000lbs, ~10:1 compression, 7500rpm redline, mid engine. Just like the sentras, Soko has low mileage JDM engines for $400-500. Unlike the sentras it's RWD.
*angels singing*
SWEET!!

And available hp it seems.

Ok, how to fix.
Any lighter oem ‘single’ mass flys that fit?
Aftermarket kits w/ decent bang/buck?

I’m all ears.

if it was a 318 i could tell you the killer set up that i use but i have not had to cook up something for a m50 so i am not sure how well it'd work, i use a e30 325i flywheel/clutch/starter and that makes a twin mass 318 (e30 or e36) the best heel and toe shifting car i've driven, not sure how the m20 clutch would handle the extra power of the m50 and weight of the e36 it can probably deal with it but i am not positive. theres a ton of aftermarket stuff out there that's made for a m50

i vote 5 with 4 as a 2nd choice if a 325i couldn't be found in a reasonable time period

i would like it too, but there all impossible to find, i just found a 1997 honda civic hx with a 5 speed for 2500 bucks, and as much as i hate the thought of being a honda civic guy, for that price i almost cant not be one, not to mention the 40+ mpg.

That MR2 has the 2.0 16 valve non-turbo engine (3S-FE), correct?

If so, I have that engine in my Celica, and it still runs beautifully with 200,000km on the clock. Beautiful powerplant.

The 3S-GTE from the turbo is nice too, and easily modded. :)
