did you try the emergency unlock as per the owners manual? passengers side door, turn the key as you're lifting the handle. don't know if that's what you meant by override...

"My battery was to low to open the doors but it had just a little bit left for the alarm. the solution for me was:
First the thing you need:
- a second car or battery
- starting cable (booster cable)
- an extra hand

Place the minus on the engine (crawl under the car). On the driver side is the alternator, take the rubber seeling of and place the plus on it. (same can be done with the starter)
Let the second person open the door"

I took that from bmwe34.net.

I took that from bmwe34.net.This is true. It worked on a m50 525i.

in the trunk lid, sure there is a post on that. Careful with reversing polarity.

Eh? By running gear you mean engine, gearbox, ABS brakes, prop & diff? If that's a 520 you have you're going to need the whole wiring loom & fuse boxes from the donor M5, plus the dash cluster. What engine are you wanting to put in - 3.6, 3.8? What about the ECU & wiring loom? Aren't the M3 & M5 sumps different? You might have had an easier job converting a 535i Sport. This all sounds a bit tricky to me, maybe take an hour and a half to do! LOL

Cheers,

Shaun
