they had to do it with specially studded snow tires. but of course they didn't claim it. oh the joys of advertising

at least it was on snow.... there are a lot of cars going through the snow here that are really driving through foam...... I helped with the setup on a couple of them... foam looks just like snow on TV....

they did claim that it was using studded tires, it's just really fine print on the bottom of the screen. i saw this commercial on TV.

There was a cable under the car that had a tensioner in it. Anyone driving up a ramp like that without a fallback and a helmet is an idiot. That is when I noticed the cable under the car and the winch system at the top of the ramp.

Is that a real ski ramp? People go down that? That's horrifying.

Yeah, I saw the cable too, but I really think the Audi drove on it's own strenght to the top. Let's face it, Audi does really make some of the worlds best cars these days.

I do admire the courage the guy has for driving the car up the ramp, even with security winches.

In the US ad the small tiny disclaimer at the bottom says they used special studded tires.... probably like the rally studs used in snow racing

Yes, it says that studded rally tires are used. Very small print.

The cable is a safety mechanism, and it's used to keep the car from sliding after it's come to a complete stop. That's also in the fine print.

Also, the car gets a good rolling start up the hill, which the comercial kind of omits.

All in all, quite misleading, I'd say.

Haven't seen the ad in Oz - can't understand why not - lol !
I was hoping that they turned the car around and sent it down the ramp - now that would have been an ad and a half !

It's been on TV here, Audi world's best cars? not in this country, might as well burn your money most audi's lost more than 10-20% more than a bmw or mercedes during the first 5 years (could be 3 years, based on redbook depreciation). I'd rather get a VW and not look like some poser wanker. (as well as not lose stupid amounts of money in depreciation).

I'm surprised to hear that BMW depreciates less than an Audi over there. Here in the Netherlands and surrounding countries, the Audi depreciates less than a Bimmer. In fact, you're bound to sell and Audi faster than A BMW because of the image BMW has over here.

I tell you what, with all the depreciation, the low mileage 01-02 A8's are pretty sweet deals. Full boat A8 with >60k miles for $15000? That's not bad.

Same same for a 01-02 740iL is going to run way past $20...maybe $28k.

studs are about 3/4 inch long, that would give me sleds a hard time keeping up.
